Sybase® and Verity Provide Powerful Indexing and Search Capabilities to Adaptive Server® Enterprise 12.5

Verity's Advanced Search Technology is Integrated into Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise's Enhanced Full-Text Search Option

SUNNYVALE, CA and EMERYVILLE, CA - 2001-10-17 - Verity, Inc. (Nasdaq: VRTY), a leading provider of infrastructure software powering enterprise and e-commerce portals as well as e-Business applications, and Sybase, Inc. (NYSE: SY), a leading provider of e-Business infrastructure software, today announced the integration of Verity's advanced search technology into the Adaptive Server® Enterprise (ASE) 12.5 DBMS' Enhanced Full-Text Search Option offered by Sybase®. This newly enhanced option can help ASE users to index and search documents throughout an enterprise while using a number of time-saving functions, including document search ranking, topic clustering and synonym-based retrieval.

Verity's advanced search technology is seamlessly integrated into the Enhanced Full-Text Search Option of ASE 12.5. As users search a company's information repositories, the search technology will simultaneously index popular document formats, including emails, Microsoft Office, Lotus Notes, PDF files, and HTML documents. This can enable ASE 12.5 customers to more quickly and accurately gather content that is stored in many different formats throughout their enterprises.

"Our ongoing relationship with Verity, as well as the capability of this technology to reach across repositories of structured and unstructured data, made this an obvious choice for Sybase," said Dr. Raj Nathan, senior vice president and general manager of Sybase's Enterprise Solutions Division. "Verity's advanced search technology helps to deliver to Sybase ASE customers the combination of speed, retrieval and precision that our customers have come to expect."

Sybase's flagship product, ASE 12.5, supports the heavy data processing needs of traditional online transaction processes and the complex data manipulation needs of decision support systems, while providing flexibility, scalability, performance and security to support new, e-Business applications. ASE 12.5's commitment to openness and performance gives customers a robust choice for managing their mission-critical, transaction-intensive applications and data.

Verity's advanced search technology also extends language support for ASE 12.5's Enhanced Full-Text Search Option across numerous languages, including French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Korean and Chinese.

"Verity's newest agreements with Sybase underscore both companies' commitments to helping users find the valuable business content they want, whatever format it's in," said Anthony J. Bettencourt, president of Verity. " Sybase joins more than 200 OEM partners who have turned to Verity to help their customers manage the overwhelming explosion of information within the enterprise."
