Autonomy Named One Of The Ten Companies To Watch In The Public Sector

Federal Computer Week Magazine Chooses Top Companies Based on Input from Resellers, Analysts and Federal IT Experts

San Francisco-October 5, 2001-Autonomy Corporation plc (Nasdaq: AUTN; LSE: AU., Europe Nasdaq: AUTN), a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced it has been selected as one of Federal Computer Week's "Top Ten Companies to Watch" in the public sector technology market. Federal Computer Week, which provides federal information technology buyers with information that will enable them to make intelligent buying decisions, chose Autonomy as one of its top ten based on the company's ability to improve federal worker productivity, to adapt to changing federal IT regulations and to anticipate the demands of federal customers so they can operate efficiently.

Autonomy's selection was also based on the company's continued success with government agencies and partners in the public sector. Currently, 35 federal agencies use Autonomy's technology, including the United States departments of Energy and Labor, NASA, General Services Administration and several divisions of the Department of Defense. For example, the U.S. Army put Autonomy's infrastructure technology to use within its new Army Knowledge Online portal, which allows soldiers to share knowledge and work more effectively across the Web. The U.S. Department of Energy Office of Civilian Radioactive Waste Management uses the technology to automatically categorize, link and deliver information from hundreds of internal repositories in different geographic locations throughout the U.S., including more than 500 Lotus Notes databases.

"Spending on IT in the public sector remains strong and Autonomy's unique technology gives us the ability to offer our federal customers powerful solutions for handling unstructured and structured information," said Pat Neven, President of iGov.com, a major U.S. Federal Government supplier and an Autonomy partner. "Employees in most fields, particularly in the public sector, need to leverage massive amounts of information to do their jobs effectively. Our combined solutions provide customers with the information they need, when they need it."

At the heart of Autonomy's software is its ability to analyze text and audio and identify and rank the main concepts within it. It can then automatically categorize, link, personalize and deliver that information. The technology is used to automate these operations within enterprise information portals, customer relationship management, knowledge management and e-business applications.
