Autonomy's Portal-In-A-Box Will Power University Of Maryland Business School Portal

Autonomy Infrastructure to Automate the Delivery of Information to Students, Staff and Alumni

San Francisco - October 1, 2001 - Autonomy Corporation plc (Nasdaq: AUTN; LSE: AU., Europe Nasdaq: AUTN), a global leader in infrastructure software for enterprise, today announced that the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business, one of the country's top 25 business schools, has purchased Autonomy's Portal-in-a-Box™ to power the school's information portal. Autonomy will automate the aggregation, organization, and delivery of information from multiple sources.

"As a school of business we are very service-oriented, and Autonomy's software allows us to go beyond merely pooling information: the technology allows classes, management functions and end-to-end research projects to occur online," said Dr. Sandor Boyson, chief of Information Strategy and co-director of the Supply Chain Management Center at the Robert H. Smith School of Business. "Creating a portal for the Smith School is an important step in managing vast amounts of information both inside and outside the school. After months of research, we will replace a Website that posted static information with a sophisticated portal that delivers automated services to those who access it."

Using Autonomy's technology, the Robert H. Smith School's portal will automatically categorize, personalize and deliver information from a variety of sources, such as internal documents; financial, transportation and logistics databases; federal agency information; and selected Web-based sources. In addition, Autonomy's natural language retrieval capabilities will enable faculty and site visitors alike to pose full-sentence queries and easily gather documents relevant to their specific tasks.

"It is especially important for major research institutions to have the most relevant and up-to-date information available instantly," said Dr. Mike Lynch, founder and Group CEO of Autonomy. "The University of Maryland joins Autonomy's other education customers, including the United States Department of Education, in recognizing the need for an automated solution that gives students and faculty users information quickly and efficiently."
