Autonomy Helps Leading Hygiene Products Company Cut Costs, Inform Shareholders And Protect Environment
SCA deploys Autonomy to increase efficiency of website information and assist environmental compliance
CAMBRIDGE, England, 6 September 2001 - Autonomy Corporation plc (Nasdaq: AUTN; Nasdaq Europe: AUTN; LSE: AU.), a leading provider of infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced that its technology has been deployed by multinational SCA to deliver relevant information to shareholders electronically, thereby cutting costs and also helping to reinforce SCA's commitment to environmental best practices.
Headquartered in Sweden, SCA, a leading international manufacturer of tissue and personal care products, such as feminine hygiene products, incontinence care products and baby diapers, as well as paper and wood products, has deployed Autonomy's technology to power the investor relations section of its Website. Autonomy enables SCA to aggregate information from a variety of different sources and automatically link related information together, based on the concepts contained in the text. This process ensures that shareholders are kept fully informed of all relevant issues, without the need to organise the information in a costly manual way or repeatedly send out expensive hardcopy updates.
Jon McNerney, Autonomy's General Manager, Europe, commented: "Successful corporations understand the need to evaluate and improve business operations. Vital processes, which have historically been performed manually - like shareholder communications - must now move to an automated model. SCA has demonstrated its forward-thinking policies by adopting Autonomy to bring automation - and therefore increased efficiency - to its operations."
Kjell Backudd, IT Controller at SCA, commented: "At SCA, we are deeply committed to environmentally friendly practices. Autonomy helps us to increase our business efficiency on two fronts - there is no burden on our employees to manually hyperlink our shareholders' information, and we use much less paper because shareholders are kept up to date with relevant information online. Saving paper also obviously helps us to remain faithful to our environmental ideals. We believe that only Autonomy's technology is capable of creating a win-win situation so rapidly."
At the heart of Autonomy's software is its ability to analyse text and voice and identify and rank the main concepts within it. It can then automatically categorise, link, personalise and deliver that information. The technology is used to automate these operations within enterprise information portals, customer relationship management, knowledge management and e-business applications.
