Autonomy Announces New Product For Instant Compatibility With Manual Legacy Systems

Autonomy Verylite offers the functionality of keyword and topic-based systems

CAMBRIDGE, England, 22 August 2001 - Autonomy Corporation plc (Nasdaq: AUTN, LSE: AU., Nasdaq Europe: AUTN), a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced the launch of Autonomy Verylite, a product which replicates the functionality of legacy systems such as Verity (NASDAQ: VRTY), PLS and Dataware.

Verylite is an addition to existing Autonomy installations. It provides the keyword and topic functionality of last-generation legacy systems, enabling Autonomy customers to easily integrate legacy keyword systems into their implementations.

Richard Gaunt, CTO of Autonomy Corporation, commented: "Autonomy removes the need for manual legacy processes, such as topics and rules, and so in many ways the legacy system is already redundant, but what Verylite does is provide backwards compatibility with existing approaches. The appearance of Verylite should be noted both by anyone who was originally considering entrusting their enterprise information needs to a traditional and expensive legacy search technology, and by existing Autonomy customers who, for whatever reasons, need to demonstrate a degree of legacy functionality within their applications."

Legacy systems rely on highly manual maintenance to render large bodies of textual information searchable by keywords. The limitations of this approach include lack of scalability and problems with inaccuracy. This stands in contrast to Autonomy's core technology, which is able to analyse text and voice and then identify and rank the main concepts within it, providing more relevant results in a highly automated and therefore scalable environment. Autonomy can then automatically categorise, link, personalise and deliver this information. The technology is used to automate operations within enterprise information portals, customer relationship management, knowledge management and e-business applications, amongst others.
