Mi-Co Selects Cardiff TELEform® Technology; Combined Solution Enables the Real-time Processing of Paper Forms Using Handheld Computers, PDAs and Smart Phones

San Diego - 2001-08-16 - New technology from Mi-Co and Cardiff Software gives mobile device users - from medical personnel to in-field inspectors - the power and convenience to instantly capture, communicate, transmit, and process handwritten information in a format that's familiar and easy-to-use.

Mi-Co is a leading developer of handwriting solutions for mobile and wireless platforms. Cardiff Software is a leader in XML-based forms processing and eBusiness automation solutions. Mi-Co integrates Cardiff's market-leading TELEform Information Capture Systems with its Mi-Forms electronic data capture solution featuring pen-on-paper forms input.

The combined Mi-Co and Cardiff solution works with a digital notepad and mobile device to connect hand-filled paper forms with automated server-based forms processing. The system supports such digital notepads as Mi-NotePad™ from Mi-Co and TransNote™ from IBM.

"Allowing mobile devices to be used for the immediate capture and communication of handwritten forms is compelling, especially in medical, insurance and field inspection applications," said Mark Seamans, Cardiff chief technical officer. "The combination of Mi-Co and Cardiff technology brings added value and life to handwritten paper forms."

The Mi-Co and Cardiff solution enables uses of mobile and wireless devices the convenience and power to:

• Complete standard-size paper forms versus the tiny input screens found on PDAs and cell phones

• Use natural handwriting input rather than forcing users to use specific handprint input, like Palm™ Graffiti®

• Create "smart paper forms" by applying business rules as the forms are completed

• Leverage powerful server software to instantly convert handwritten input into online data, augmenting the limited processing power found within today's mobile devices

"Mi-Co is pleased to be partnering with Cardiff to support the automated processing of paper and digital information from any source, including mobile and wireless using Mi-Forms," said Mi-Co President Jim Clary. "Our mutual customers will appreciate the power of the combined products."
