Verity, Inc. Elects Dr. Prabhakar Raghavan to Vice President and Chief Technology Officer

Industry Expert and Academician to Guide Development of Verity's Advanced Business Portal Infrastructure Software

SUNNYVALE, CA - 2001-06-27 - Verity, Inc. (NASDAQ: VRTY), a leading provider of infrastructure software powering enterprise and e-commerce portals as well as e-business applications, today announced the election of Dr. Prabhakar Raghavan to the position of Vice President and Chief Technology Officer (CTO). He previously held the position of Chief Scientist and Vice President of Emerging Technologies at Verity, since joining in March 2000. As Vice President and CTO, Dr. Raghavan will oversee the strategic direction and development of Verity's business portal infrastructure software.

Dr. Raghavan has been instrumental in developing Verity's vision and advanced capabilities such as automatic classification and the idea of social network as the foundation for business portal infrastructure. As Vice President and CTO, Dr. Raghavan will be responsible for driving continued development of these industry-leading technologies.

"Dr. Raghavan's leadership has been instrumental to Verity's success in helping enterprises and e-businesses manage and share large volumes of valuable information," said Dr. Ashok Chandra, Verity's Senior Vice President of Development and New Business Activities. "Dr. Raghavan's extensive experience in developing Web, security and storage architecture technologies has helped build products that have established Verity as a market and technology leader in business infrastructure portal software." Dr. Raghavan will continue to report to Dr. Chandra in his new role.

Prior to joining Verity, Dr. Raghavan headed the Computer Science Principles (CSP) department at IBM's Almaden Research Center. Dr. Raghavan also led IBM's Clever project on Web search and mining.

Dr. Raghavan serves as a Consulting Professor of Computer Science at Stanford University and has taught courses at leading universities around the world. He is the author of 100 papers in various fields, including algorithms, optimization, Web search and databases. He also serves on the editorial boards of several prestigious scientific journals, including the Journal of the ACM, ACM Transactions on Internet Technology and the SIAM Journal on Computing, and is Chair of the IEEE Committee on Mathematical Foundations of Computing. Dr. Raghavan holds a Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley and an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from IIT in Madras.
