WorldNow Integrates Virage Technology into Local News and Information Websites Nationwide
Virage Platform Streamlines Encoding and Indexing of Video Content for 23 Local News Affiliates
SAN MATEO, Calif.- June 18, 2001 - Virage, Inc. [Nasdaq: VRGE], a leading provider of video content management and publishing solutions, announced today that WorldNow has employed the Virage Video Application Platform at 23 affiliate sites across the country to index, encode and publish local news and information clips to their websites.
WorldNow, the leading provider of Internet technology and revenue solutions for local news and information companies, provides browser-based technology, a suite of online revenue programs as well as comprehensive service and support to more than 125 leading television stations around the country. Under the agreement, WorldNow will offer Virage's software, coupled with its own services, to affiliates interested in the distribution of video content on the Internet in a searchable streaming format. Twenty-three WorldNow affiliates, including stations in top 50 markets such as Los Angeles, Atlanta, Kansas City and Nashville, currently utilize Virage's video streaming software. WorldNow projects the majority of its Network affiliates will feature Virage's software in the near future.
"Virage's innovative software enables us to offer our affiliates state-of-the-art digital encoding and indexing in a cost-effective manner," said Gary Gannaway, chairman and CEO of WorldNow. "Before, many of our stations lacked the time, technical staff and/or financial resources to stream video content on the Web. Together with Virage, we're able to eliminate those barriers and make streaming video possible."
"WorldNow has built up a powerful franchise with top television stations nationwide. We're thankful for the opportunity to share in their success and to participate in a partnership which is robust and growing," said Carlos Montalvo, chief marketing officer at Virage. "Virage provides WorldNow with a powerful video application platform that makes it cost-effective for regional news content to be transformed into compelling and interactive broadband programming. This partnership demonstrates how local news broadcasters can extend their audience reach and grow their advertising revenue through the personalization of their news content to a broader Internet audience."
