Autonomy Expands Growth in Manufacturing Sector with New Customer Ingersoll Rand
San Francisco-June 14, 2001 - Autonomy Corporation plc (Nasdaq: AUTN; Nasdaq Europe: AUTN; LSE: AU.), a leading provider of infrastructure software for the Web and the enterprise, today announced that it has extended its reach into the manufacturing sector with the addition of new client Ingersoll-Rand Company (NYSE: IR), a diversified, multinational manufacturer of industrial and commercial equipment and components.
With information located across the globe, Ingersoll-Rand needed a way to automatically deliver and retrieve business critical information for its 50,000 employees via the company intranet. Ingersoll-Rand implemented Autonomy ServerTM and Autonomy FetchTM to automate the aggregation, management, retrieval and delivery of information related to employees' projects and accounts from multiple unstructured sources worldwide.
"As Ingersoll-Rand continues its e-Business implementation across the company, it is vital that employees have Internet access to the documents and information that relate to their jobs and support their work and personal life without spending valuable time managing and locating that information," said Brenda Shore, manager, Intranet Development for Ingersoll-Rand. "Autonomy's solution provides employees the information they need, when they need it. The simple implementation will allow us to leverage the company intranet quickly and efficiently."
"Whether in manufacturing, banking or technology, companies cannot afford to neglect their core business to manually manage the rapidly expanding amount of unstructured information," said Richard Gaunt, co-founder and CTO of Autonomy. "Our infrastructure technology is being used in a broad range of industries to help enterprises automatically leverage their business critical information. The manufacturing industry recognizes the fundamental strength of our technology and the cost-savings and efficiency it promotes within those organizations."
Ingersoll-Rand joins others in the manufacturing industry that have already implemented Autonomy's technology, including: General Motors, Fujitsu, Halliburton Company, Skanska, Volkswagen, Unilever and Unisys.
At the heart of Autonomy's software is its ability to analyze text and voice (in any language) and identify and rank the main concepts within it. It can then automatically categorize, link, personalize and deliver that information. The technology is used to automate these operations within enterprise information portals, customer relationship management, knowledge management and e-business applications.
