BEA Selects Autonomy for its New BEA Weblogic Portal
SAN FRANCISCO - June 5, 2001 - Autonomy Corporation plc (Nasdaq: AUTN; Nasdaq Europe: AUTN; LSE: AU.), a global leader in infrastructure software for the Web and the enterprise, today announced that BEA Systems (Nasdaq: BEAS) has selected Autonomy's technology for use with the current version of BEA Portal Framework, as well as with BEA WebLogic Portal 4.0, announced separately today.
Autonomy's infrastructure technology will be used to automate the aggregation, categorization, hypertext linking, personalization and retrieval of both structured and unstructured information from corporate applications, legacy information systems and the Web. Autonomy's product will integrate with the open and extensible BEA Portal Framework housed within BEA WebLogic Personalization Server 3.5, and in the future with WebLogic Portal 4.0. In addition, Autonomy DRE Lite, a version of Autonomy's award-winning technology, will be available to customers as part of the BEA partner pack that ships with BEA WebLogic Personalization Server 3.5 and will ship with BEA WebLogic Portal 4.0. Autonomy's infrastructure technology will support BEA WebLogic Portal, BEA's next step in the delivery of its enterprise portal strategy, building on the WebLogic Personalization Server. BEA WebLogic Portal will be available in October 2001.
"We chose Autonomy's market-leading technology because it allows our customers to aggregate content from CRM systems, corporate Intranets and the Web in order make more informed business decisions," said Gail Ennis, vice president of marketing, BEA E-Commerce Application Components Division. "This composite view translates into operational efficiency and competitive advantage, ultimately helping reduce customers' overall costs of deploying WebLogic portal solutions."
BEA Portal Framework allows customers to personalize content layout and access to enterprise applications, and to securely manage group access to portal applications. The framework offers reusable, extensible and pre-built portal functions, allowing customers to deliver real-time, tailored content and commerce functionality. BEA's portal framework is built on BEA WebLogic Server™, the world's #1 Java application server. BEA WebLogic Portal incorporates new portal technologies, user tools and partner applications to help ease sharing enterprise-wide knowledge, help reduce the time and cost of enterprise portal integration, and serve as the e-business platform for cross-enterprise portal initiatives.
"BEA is a global leader in providing Java-based infrastructure software, and WebLogic Portal will provide a framework for building portals that unlock the business value of information contained in disparate corporate applications," said Autonomy CEO Mike Lynch. "We are pleased BEA joined Autonomy's OEM partner program last quarter and that we are announcing the first result from our partnership. Together we can help businesses deliver targeted and tailored knowledge and digital assets."
Autonomy's concept-based infrastructure technology enables computers to understand unstructured information and identify and rank the main ideas within it. Because of this ability, Autonomy's technology automates business operations on unstructured information such as categorizing, linking, personalizing and delivering, which to date, have been completely manual.
