Verity gives Thetimes.co.uk visitors quick and easy access to the news
SUNNYVALE, CA. - 2001-03-29 - Verity, the company powering business portals, announces that News International is using Verity Information Server across Thetimes.co.uk to allow its visitors quick and easy access to site content. Verity is enabling advanced archive searches that were previously unavailable to Times readers and is adding to ease of use of the site.
The Verity Information Server enables readers to search through past editions of The Times by subject matter. This gives the reader instant access to relevant information without having to sift through pages and pages of information first. Visitors can find what they are looking for quickly and accurately, adding to their overall site experience and satisfaction. The implementation is part of an on-going effort to improve the Thetimes.co.uk site and to provide the visitor with an ever-widening range of facilities. Future plans include employing Verity technology across other News International web site expanded archives.
"The amount of information we offer on our site increases daily with the growth in number of back issues. We need advanced technologies that can handle increasing volumes of content and allow for unlimited growth of users and queries," says David Segrove, technical development director at News International. "We chose Verity because of its impressive record in the online publishing sector and its scalable solutions, while its precision and performance offers our readers the means to access exactly what they are looking for."
Visitors to the site are able to use a text-based search facility to look for articles about specific subjects, which cuts down the time they spend looking for information. Verity was also selected for its ability to cope with mis-spelt words and to intuitively provide search results ranked in order of relevance. Verity's ability to integrate cleanly with Vignette's content management system was also a major benefit for News International.
"Online publishing offers readers more of an opportunity to access information than is possible offline. However, there is no point in having this wealth of information if no-one can find it," says Simon Atkinson, managing director of Verity GB Ltd. "The biggest differentiator in this sector is the ease of use of the site. By selecting Verity, News International is ensuring that it is moving with the times."
