NASA Awards Leading Edge Design & Systems a Contract for Virage Integration and the Modernization of Its Multimedia Asset Management System
Hanover, Maryland - February 26, 2001 - Leading Edge Design & Systems (LEDS), a full-service provider of end-to-end digital information management and exploitation (DIME™) systems, was awarded a contract by NASA to further enhance and complete a Virage-based multimedia asset management system at the agency's Langley facility in Hampton, Virginia. NASA chose LEDS for this project based on the Company's demonstrated expertise and track record of success.
NASA's Video Applications Group (VAG) sought a powerful yet user-friendly and efficient solution for indexing all of their videos in order to drastically reduce the search process and make these assets available for internal and external use. With the video indexing and search solution from Virage, Inc. (Nasdaq: VRGE), the VAG gained both a fast search tool and a valuable archiving system that helped protect its many hours of footage, some of which is rare and irreplaceable.
The project, featured in the February 2001 issue of Government Video magazine (p.45), is a yearlong effort that begins with launching the system within the month and continues with dedicated maintenance and support. Since beginning the project a short time ago, LEDS has produced significant benefits to its customer. "The support we have been provided demonstrates Leading Edge's and Virage's dedication to assure customer satisfaction in their products and services," said Sheri Beam, VAG's Executive Producer. "After being on site for an hour or so, a Leading Edge expert had already discovered a way that the product could increase the impact of the technology for us."
LEDS combines its expertise with the industry leading technologies of Virage's video application platform and RealNetworks¬ RealSystem¬ iQ, digital media delivery system, to create total information management and delivery solutions. One of these applications is its Distance Learning solution. This system is the answer to customers' needs to train their employees in a cost-effective and highly efficient way by allowing them to take courses on-demand and to track their results for better performance and retention. With the distance learning solution, customers reduce travel costs and employee downtime with on-demand, online course delivery and they increase training effectiveness by automatically tracking student performance to target areas for continuing improvement. Another application is the Company's Business Intelligence solution, a data mining and information tracking application for corporate and government clients. This system monitors information from a broad range of sources, including television broadcasts and the Internet, to deliver reports of critical activities and other competitive data that helps clients make better business decisions and set more effective strategies.
