Autonomy Expands Public Sector Operations with New Federal Customers and New North American Partners

Autonomy Opens New Office in Washington, D.C. to Support Growing Autonomy East Coast Operations

San Francisco - February 20, 2001 - Autonomy Corporation plc (NASDAQ: AUTN; LSE: AU., EASDAQ: AUTN), a global leader in infrastructure software for the Web and the enterprise, today announced that new federal agency and military departments are deploying its technology. The new customers include the U.S. Army for its Army Knowledge Online initiative, Department of Energy's Office of Civilian Radioactive Waste Department and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

In addition, Autonomy has expanded its partner program with new partner relationships in North America concentrated principally on the public sector and enterprise markets, including the following: ASD Global, BTG, Inc., Integic, The Logistics Management Institute (LMI), Logicon, Omen, Inc. and Unisys. Autonomy has also opened a new office in Washington, D.C. to support its rapidly growing public sector operations.

Autonomy has also broadened its existing OEM relationship with Sybase (announced on 7 February 2000) to that of a worldwide value added reseller. In a further development, Autonomy has formalized a value added reseller agreement with Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC).

According to Autonomy CEO Michael Lynch, government agencies and departments are a prime market for Autonomy because they utilize large amounts of unstructured information such as regulatory reports, constituent correspondence, legislative records and statutes. "Autonomy's infrastructure technology automates the handling of such information," said Lynch. "We empower enterprises whether in the private or the public sector to operate more efficiently with fewer people and a reduction in processing costs."

The U.S. Department of Energy Office of Civilian Radioactive Waste Management has deployed a knowledge management portal with Autonomy's technology to automatically categorize, link and deliver information from hundreds of internal repositories in different geographic locations throughout the U.S., including more than 500 Lotus Notes databases. With Autonomy's profiling technology, more than 2,500 users across the country can locate colleagues by their area of expertise, which fosters collaboration.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) ensures the health and safety of the public, the environment and the common defense and security departments from the usage of nuclear materials in the United States. The NRC selected Autonomy's Portal-in-a-Box™ software to power a portal that contains licensing documents and applications. Participants of the portal include counties, federal government, Indian tribes and anyone that is impacted by the construction of a nuclear waste site. The NRC chose Autonomy's technology because it features natural language query, which makes it much easier for users to obtain the information they need, and automates the process of categorizing and linking information.

The U.S. Army put Autonomy's infrastructure technology to use within its new Army Knowledge Online (AKO) portal, which allows soldiers to share knowledge and work more effectively across the Web. With Autonomy's Portal-in-a-Box and Autonomy ActiveKnowledge™ software, soldiers and staff can set up personalized reports to track the information that is most relevant to their jobs, create communities of interest with colleagues across the country who are working in similar areas and have one point of access for information from file systems, Websites, Lotus Notes databases, RDBMS, Documentum document management system, MS Exchange, newsfeeds, and other Army sites. With Autonomy's technology, AKO is facilitating knowledge sharing across the Army and allowing individuals to spend more time analyzing versus collecting information, thereby assisting in the production of higher quality products, recommendations and decisions.

"Partners are a vital part of Autonomy's scaleable business model because they allow us to sign on such strong customers as the U.S. Department of Energy and the Army without requiring us to build up our headcount," said Lynch. "The addition of these new companies concentrated on the public sector into our alliance program furthers Autonomy's penetration within the eastern region of North America and the U.S. federal, state and enterprise markets." Among Autonomy's previously announced public sector partners are Federal DataCorp, CACI, Raytheon, General Dynamics, GTSI, Contentra and GRCI, an AT&T company.

The new Autonomy Advantage program partners are described below:

  • ASD Global, an established software application solution vendor and integrator of total solutions for a wide range of vertical industries and state governments, and Autonomy have formed a strategic relationship to power comprehensive government portals, designed to drive a new era of government applications.
