eLaw.com and Verity Empower Legal Professionals By Bringing the Efficiency of the Internet to the Practice of Law

Verity® K2 Toolkit Streamlines Attorney Research and Document-Generation Process - Saving Time and Money

SUNNYVALE, CA. and AUSTIN, TX - 2001-02-12 - Verity, Inc. (NASDAQ: VRTY), a leading provider of infrastructure software that powers enterprise and e-commerce portals as well as e-business applications, and eLaw.com, a legal technology company offering high quality legal research documents to legal professionals, today announced that Verity technology has been deployed for use in the eLaw.com editorial work flow system and the eLaw.com data repository powering the eLaw.com Web site. eLaw.com offers a Web-based collection of high-quality legal analysis and work product provided by leading firms around the world, allowing subscribers to dramatically expand their knowledge base and reduce their legal research and preparation time. Verity's high performance portal infrastructure technology, Verity® K2 Toolkit, was selected to power the site because of its robustness, ease of use, and scalability.

"eLaw.com was founded to help attorneys streamline their research and drafting; therefore, it is imperative that our site is extremely easy for non-technical people to use," said Dan Wilkins, vice president of engineering for eLaw.com. "Verity K2 is one of the most robust and scalable search technologies on the market, giving us confidence that we can easily handle thousands of subscribers searching through several thousands of documents per library each day. Its rich Java API readily integrated with the Java technology on the rest of our site. Verity K2 was extremely easy to deploy, enabling us to quickly realize a return on our investment."

eLaw.com's Web site is organized by practice area and includes memoranda, agreements, forms, checklists, newsletters, articles, briefs, research and other valuable practice resources. eLaw.com launched its first library for the Labor and Employment practice area in November 2000. The library complements existing legal research tools, allowing subscribers to expedite their legal work, save time and maximize productivity. Practice areas currently under construction include Antitrust, Corporate and Securities, E-commerce, Employee Benefits, Environmental, Healthcare, Intellectual Property, International Trade, and Tax.

"eLaw.com is providing an invaluable service to legal professionals, enabling them to maximize their efficiency by drawing on high quality legal analysis and work product created by top-tier legal firms from around the world," said Mike Zuckerman, vice president of marketing for Verity. "We're excited to be able to contribute our technology to this unique site to help their customers streamline their research and document-generation process. Our technology will help increase attorneys' efficiency and productivity by allowing them to quickly locate relevant information on the eLaw.com Web site."

About the Verity K2 Toolkit

Verity K2 Toolkit allows brokered searches across multiple servers and multiple CPUs to provide the most relevant search results from many information sources without sacrificing the speed or accuracy of the results displayed. As the number of users, queries, or amount of data increases, K2 applications can keep pace with increased demands by adding new CPUs or servers to the network without bringing down the application. Providing 24x7 fault tolerant operations, the Verity K2 Toolkit isolates failures of individual nodes or servers from the rest of the system, ensuring that applications are available when they are needed.

The Verity K2 Toolkit also supports Active Server Pages/COM and Java™, allowing easy integration across a wide range of application servers and Java environments, including Microsoft IIS/Site Server, Weblogic, iPlanet, Websphere, Java Server Pages, and Apache with JServ. With Industry-standard C language and Perl APIs, Verity's K2 Toolkit helps speed application deployment and gives corporate accounts added flexibility in application development, especially for e-commerce and business-to-business application solutions.
