Zurich Group Deploys Autonomy to Power Worldwide Risk Engineering Extranet
Thousands of customers and partners will benefit from personalised, hyperlinked information in new technical risk-focused portal programme
CAMBRIDGE, England, 1 February 2001 - Autonomy Corporation plc (EASDAQ: AUTN, NASDAQ: AUTN, LSE: AU.), a leading provider of infrastructure software for the Web and the enterprise, today announced that its technology has been adopted by Zurich Group to power its Risk Engineering extranet, RiskCockpit, launching next summer.
Zurich's RiskCockpit is a unique, personalised, technical risk management portal geared to offering its customers and partners the instruments they require to gain a higher level of control over their risks worldwide.
The technical risk knowledge and information exchange tool in the RiskCockpit is KnowledgeNavigator, based on Autonomy's award-winning Portal-in-a-Box™ technology, and delivers industry intelligence from over 500 sources, automatically tailored to users' personal interests. The information is also automatically linked to pertinent sources elsewhere - on the Internet and in Zurich's own internal archives, for example - to make users' research more wide-ranging and effective.
Jean-Pierre Krause, of Zurich Risk Engineering Group's Head Office, said: "There is a lot of useful information out there, but the key to using it is to first make sense of it. This entails understanding the content, sending it to the right person and linking it to other pertinent information and people. Speed is another critical factor, thus all this should happen in a non-labour-intensive manner - that is, completely automatically. That is what Autonomy, uniquely, now enables us to do. It is the engine of our KnowledgeNavigator."
At the heart of Autonomy's software is its ability to analyze a piece of text (in any language) and identify and rank the main concepts within it. It can then automatically categorize, link, personalize and deliver that information. The technology is used to automate these operations within enterprise information portals, customer relationship management, knowledge management and e-business applications.
Dr. Mike Lynch, Founder and Group CEO of Autonomy Corporation, commented: "Relationships are the key to business success, and effective information is what sustains a relationship. However, as businesses grow it becomes impossible to supply that information accurately and in context. Zurich Risk Engineering has tackled this paradox head-on; using Autonomy, it is now able to deliver critical information to its network of partners and customers, in a way which is totally free of manual intervention."
About Autonomy Corporation plc
Autonomy's infrastructure technology enables computers to form an understanding of a piece of text, Web pages, e-mails, voice, documents and people. Because of this unique ability, Autonomy's technology automates business operations on unstructured information, such as categorising, linking, personalising and delivering, which, to date, have been completely manual. Autonomy's technology powers any application dependent upon unstructured information including: e-commerce, customer relationship management, knowledge management, enterprise information portals and online publishing.
Among Autonomy's 425-plus customers are Alcatel, Associated Press, BBC, British Aerospace, Clorox, Reed Elsevier, News Corp., Lucent Technologies, Merrill Lynch, SF Gate, Reuters, Semi-tech, The Royal Mail, TF1, Unilever and the United States Department of Defense. In addition, many of the world's leading software companies license Autonomy's technology to add intelligence to their own products, in areas as diverse as online publishing, knowledge management, email routing and document management. These include Brio, Business Objects, Delano, Epiphany, Filenet, Insight, Intranet Solutions, Intraspect, KnowledgeTrack, Nexor, Novient, OpenMarket, Sybase and Vignette.
Autonomy was founded in 1996 and has offices throughout North America and Europe, as well as in Sydney, Australia. Autonomy listed on EASDAQ (EASDAQ:AUTN) in July 1998, on The Nasdaq National Market (NASDAQ: AUTN) in May 2000 and on the London Stock Exchange (LSE:AU.) in November 2000.
