Michael Lock Joins Virage as Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales
Former Oracle Executive Joins Virage's Senior Management Team
SAN MATEO, Calif - Jan. 23, 2001 - Virage, Inc. [NASDAQ: VRGE], a leading provider of software products and application services that enable video for strategic online applications, today announced the appointment of Michael Lock as Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales. Lock has spent 15 years in the technology industry and has extensive experience in the areas of high-end direct sales, telesales, partner sales, Internet sales, marketing and general management.
Most recently, Lock served as Vice President of Sales and Marketing for a division of Oracle Corporation. During his tenure, his division grew from $70 million to $315 million. He built a new field sales organization, established both inbound and outbound call centers, created a partner selling channel and developed a $30 million e-commerce business by selling directly over the Internet. "I have joined Virage because of their clear leadership position in the online video industry," said Lock. "With the proven success of the Virage technology, outstanding customer base and strong partner affiliations, my management skills will help Virage to execute its strategies and achieve substantial and sustained growth."

Lock started his sales career at IBM where he held sales and management positions selling into mid-market accounts and then into Fortune 500 accounts. He was awarded the Top Rookie Salesman award in 1988 and attended 3 golden circles in his five years on territory. Lock also enjoyed successful sales and general management roles at Dun and Bradstreet Software, JD Edwards and Drake International. He currently sits on the board of advisors for Market Partners, a customer acquisition management software company and has also run his own consulting company advising software startups on a wide variety of sales and marketing issues. Lock holds a Bachelor of Business Administration, from Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.
