IBM Global Services to Integrate and Sell Autonomy Solutions

Autonomy Partner Program Continues to Expand

San Francisco, Calif. - January 8, 2001 - Autonomy Corporation plc (NASDAQ: AUTN; EASDAQ: AUTN; LSE: AU.), a global leader in infrastructure software for the Web and the enterprise, today announced an alliance with IBM Global Services, the world's largest information technology services provider. Through this agreement, IBM Global Services will certify consultants worldwide to implement and sell the full line of Autonomy products.

Autonomy CEO Michael Lynch commented that the alliance is a natural extension of Autonomy's relationship with IBM. IBM is already incorporating Autonomy's infrastructure technology as part of the company's uniquely comprehensive Corporate Portal Offering (CPO), which provides a flexible framework for businesses worldwide to create dynamic, custom portals.

"We are pleased to have this alliance with IBM Global Services," said Lynch. "Our partners are critical to establishing Autonomy's technology as the ubiquitous infrastructure layer that helps corporations worldwide efficiently use their information," said Lynch. "For example, IBM's CPO initiative also includes Documentum and Vignette, who already use our infrastructure technology to automate the processing of unstructured information within a variety of their own applications."

"Autonomy's technology provides a scalable and cost efficient solution to manage unstructured data - an untapped source of knowledge," says Scott Smith, global executive, Knowledge and Content Management Group, IBM Global Services. "Working with Autonomy, we can provide our clients and their employees with access to real-time, relevant and personalized information."

The partnership with IBM Global Services continues to build Autonomy's highly scalable indirect sales and distribution model. Because partners sell and penetrate the market with Autonomy's infrastructure technology, Autonomy is able to keep its overhead margins low. IBM Global Services joins other Autonomy partners.

About Autonomy Corporation plc

Autonomy's infrastructure technology enables computers to understand a piece of text, Web pages, e-mails, voice, documents, video and people. Because of this unique ability, Autonomy's technology automates business operations on unstructured information, such as categorizing, linking, personalizing and delivering operations, which, to date, have been completely manual. Autonomy's technology powers any application dependant upon unstructured information including: e-commerce, customer relationship management, knowledge management, enterprise information portals and online publishing.

Among Autonomy's 390-plus customers are Alcatel, Associated Press, BBC, British Aerospace, Clorox, Reed Elsevier, News Corp., Lucent Technologies, Merrill Lynch, SF Gate, Reuters, Semi-tech, The Royal Mail, TF1, Unilever and the United States Department of Defense. In addition, many of the world's leading software companies license Autonomy's technology to add intelligence to their own products, in areas as diverse as online publishing, knowledge management, email routing and document management. These include Vignette, Sybase, Corechange, Brio, Delano, Epiphany, Filenet, Hyperwave, Insight, Intranet Solutions, Intraspect, KnowledgeTrack, Nexor, Novient and OpenMarket.

Autonomy was founded in 1996 and has offices in Boston, Chicago, Dallas, San Francisco, New York and Washington, D.C. in the United States, as well as offices through Europe, including Amsterdam, Brussels, Cambridge, Frankfurt, Milan, Paris, Oslo, and Sydney. In July 1998, the company went public on the EASDAQ exchange (EASDAQ:AUTN). Autonomy floated on The Nasdaq National Market (NASDAQ: AUTN) in May 2000, and on the London Stock Exchange (LSE: AU.) in November 2000.
