Telestream Partners with Virage to Provide Powerful Solutions for Streaming Media Production and Management
Companies share common goal to offer customers best-in-class production, logging and indexing solutions supporting popular streaming formats
Nevada City, CA and San Mateo, CA, December 11, 2000 - Telestream, a leading streaming media infrastructure company, and Virage, Inc. [NASDAQ: VRGE], a leading provider of software products and application services that enable video for the Internet, today announced the formation of a strategic partnership to provide content creators and owners with powerful solutions for large-scale streaming media production and management. As a member of the Virage Developer Program, Telestream will integrate support for the Virage Video Application Platform and Virage-enabled video into its FlipFactory™ multi-format publishing software, and Virage will promote FlipFactory as a plug-in streaming media encoding solution for its platform.
Unlike MP3 for music, video over the Internet is not converging on a single standard. To accommodate viewing preferences, a single video source file is commonly published in 3 popular streaming video formats and multiple bit rates each. That means that for every source file, 3 or more streaming video files need to be produced and logged for easy search and retrieval. For content owners posting large amounts of content to their websites on a daily basis, this can present a real challenge. Users are looking for fast, easy solutions to the daunting tasks of publishing and managing their web content.
Telestream FlipFactory™ software, working in conjunction with the Virage VideoLogger®, automates the process of simultaneously encoding a single source file into multiple streaming formats and bit rates and delivering resulting files with associated metadata such as closed caption text to streaming servers. The Virage SmartEncode™ process, managed by VideoLogger, extracts closed caption text and organizes video content for instant, easy search and retrieval by the Virage Video Application Server. The joint solution available from these two companies simplifies the task of encoding, logging and ultimately accessing large amounts of streaming content.
"Telestream's integration of its enterprise-class FlipFactory multi-format streaming media encoding and delivery software with the Virage platform extends to users a powerful streaming media publishing solution," said Carlos Montalvo, Chief Marketing Officer at Virage. "This partnership combines the best of both technologies to help entertainment, business, education and government users easily unleash the power of Internet video communication."
"Supporting the Virage platform and Virage-enabled video allows video asset owners to intelligently categorize and manage video archives via the Internet," stated David Heppe, Telestream VP of Marketing and Business Development. "Together, Virage and Telestream solutions automate the processes of indexing, cataloging and publishing media in multiple formats, saving organizations valuable time, money and resources."
Both of these enterprise software solutions run on standard Windows NT™ and Windows 2000™ server platforms, and are available through system integrators as well as from each company respectively.
