Virage Announces Global Version of VideoLogger

Version 4.5 of the Award-Winning Virage Software Adds Support for Asia/Pacific Languages

SAN MATEO, CA - November 29, 2000 - Virage, Inc. [NASDAQ: VRGE], a leading provider of software products and application services that enable video for the Internet, today announced the release of the Virage VideoLogger® 4.5, the latest version of its award-winning video indexing software. Improving upon the powerful SmartEncode™ capabilities of its predecessor, VideoLogger 4.5 contains major architectural enhancements that will expand the Virage platform further into the international market by supporting Asian and Pacific languages. Additional enhancements include the new VideoLogger Service for Windows which seamlessly integrates the VideoLogger application into the Windows operating system, improves remote operation and further enhances the 24x7 lights-out reliability of the SmartEncode process.

The new VideoLogger 4.5 now supports multi-byte characters and localized user interfaces that enable utilization of the Virage platform in virtually every overseas market. As with earlier versions, the Virage SmartEncode process, managed by the VideoLogger, simultaneously indexes and encodes streaming video content, enabling video for online applications while substantially reducing streaming media production time. The localization kit, now available with the newest VideoLogger version, can translate menus and instructional data into the user's preferred language. Multi-byte character support makes the Virage platform a global product offering compatible with virtually any foreign language.

"VideoLogger 4.5 opens up new and extensive opportunities in the Asian market, especially in local markets," said Kyung Namgung, CEO of iViTech, a leading provider of video services in Southeast Asia. "Virage's dedication to constant developments within their software in such practical ways is what makes them the unquestionable leading provider of Internet video technology."

"The enhancements in VideoLogger 4.5 will bring the cutting-edge Virage technology to places all over the world that could not previously take advantage of it," said Dave Girouard, senior vice president of products, services, & strategy at Virage. "The new version dissolves language barriers to the production of effective online video. We are very excited that the Virage platform can now be personalized in a way that can fit the needs of our customers world-wide."

VideoLogger 4.5 also contains extensive improvements in the efficiency of clip marking of indexed video content and can be seamlessly integrated into the Windows operating system through the Virage VideoLogger Service for Windows. Designed primarily for use with Virage ControlCenter™, this optional feature eliminates the need for a user interface to start and stop the program, improves remote operation and further enhances the 24x7 lights-out reliability of the SmartEncode process.

Videologger 4.5 Enhancements

The latest version on the VideoLogger improves the existing technology through more efficient applications and new capabilities for global markets. New features include:

Internationalization through multi-byte character support. Content is ingested, saved and exported with full capability for use with languages that utilize multi-byte characters.

User-interface can be easily translated into local languages using the Virage Localization Kit.

Virage VideoLogger Service for Windows allows users to operate the VideoLogger without the user-interface. VideoLogger can also be started and stopped with the Windows operating system.

With a single keystroke, users can select all or a range of information within Virage data tracks. This is a general user-interface improvement that provides more efficient editorial.

Certification on Windows 2000, Real 8, Windows Media 7 and QuickTime 4.2.

New release of the Software Developer's Kit, including significant developer improvements.
