Autonomy Announces Strategic Partnership With NTT Software In Japan

NTT Software To Distribute Autonomy's Software, Expanding Autonomy's Global Reach

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (October 24, 2000) - Autonomy Corporation, plc (NASDAQ: AUTN; EASDAQ: AUTN), a global leader in infrastructure software for the Web and the enterprise, today announced a strategic reseller agreement with NTT Software Corporation. NTT Software is Autonomy's first Japanese reseller and will sell Autonomy's language independent technology into the e-commerce and enterprise markets across the country.

Under the terms of the agreement NTT Software will distribute Autonomy's infrastructure technology, which provides a scalable and cost-efficient approach to managing and processing large quantities of unstructured information, to their rapidly expanding Japanese client base.

According to NTT Software President & CEO Seishiro Tsuruho, today's business runs on unstructured information and the sheer volume of it is exploding. "Companies are being bombarded by the amount of emails, vendor correspondence, customer presentations, Web pages, contracts and internal reports that they must process and manage every day," said Tsuruho. "Autonomy's technology automates the processing and delivery of this information, allowing companies to focus on their core business rather than managing this glut of information."

According to Autonomy CEO Mike Lynch, the alliance with NTT Software allows Autonomy to expand into the coveted, tech savvy Japanese market. "NTT Software has been a trailblazer in bringing innovative software solutions to Japanese companies," said Lynch. "We are pleased to have such a reputable, experienced company representing us in their home market."

At the heart of Autonomy's software is its ability to analyze a piece of text (in any language) and identify and rank the main concepts within it. It can then automatically categorize, link, personalize and deliver that information. The technology is used to automate these operations within enterprise information portal, customer relationship management, knowledge management and e-business applications.

NTT Software, which is dedicated to providing technology solutions that strengthen its clients' competitiveness in the Internet business area, is the latest partner that Autonomy has signed on to sell and distribute its technology. Other Autonomy partners include Compaq, Hewlett-Packard, Razorfish and Sun Microsystems.

Autonomy's entry into the Japanese market with NTT Software will also provide support for Autonomy's OEM partners, including Sybase and Open Market, who are also working with NTT Software in this market. Autonomy's OEM program allows other vendors to embed Autonomy's technology for automating unstructured data in any language into their own applications for knowledge management, enterprise information portals, customer relationship management, new media publishing and e-commerce.

About Autonomy Corporation, plc

Autonomy's technology powers large-scale, personalized systems for the enterprise, Internet and other digital domains. Because of its ability to analyze any piece of text (independent of the document's language) and identify and rank the main ideas, Autonomy can automate a broad range of otherwise labor intensive tasks. These range from categorizing information by subject matter, to inserting hypertext links to related material, to profiling users based on the ideas in the text they read or write, to delivering information to those most likely to be interested. Autonomy (EASDAQ/NASDAQ: AUTN) was founded in 1996 and has offices in Boston, Chicago, Dallas, San Francisco, New York, and Washington, D.C. in the United States, as well as offices in Amsterdam, Brussels, Cambridge, England, Frankfurt, Milan, Paris, Oslo and Sydney.

Among its 330-plus customers are Alcatel, Associated Press, Barclays Bank, British Aerospace, Clorox, News Corp., Lucent Technologies, Merrill Lynch, SF Gate, Reuters, Semi-tech, The Royal Mail, Unilever, and the United States Department of Defense. In addition, several leading software companies license Autonomy's technology to add intelligence to their online publishing, knowledge management, email routing and document management applications, including Vignette, Sybase, Corechange, Brio, Delano, E.piphany,Filenet, Hyperwave, Insight, Intranet Solutions, Intraspect, KnowledgeTrack, Nexor, Novient and OpenMarket.

About NTT Software

NTT Software Corporation was founded in July 1985, when Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT), the world's largest telecommunications company, was privatized. NTT Software started its business by carrying out design and building tasks for the development of advanced and large-scale telecommunications technology by NTT Laboratories and it has developed business for various areas including the Internet and bio-informatics technologies. NTT Software established its Tokyo Headquarters in December 1998 to strengthen sales activities and for collecting and dispatching information. In order to expand the market out of the NTT group and structural reinforcement of merchandise development, NTT Software enforced a modification of organization. In 2000, NTT Software places emphasis on the solutions of Enterprise Application Integration (EAI), Electronic Commerce/Customer Relationship Management (EC/CRM) and Security as its three main business fields for strengthening its sales.
