Fish4 Selects Verity to Enhance its Portal Solution

Verity K2 Toolkit and Verity Profiler to Deliver Rapid, Accurate, and Scalable Access to Fish4 Customers

SUNNYVALE, CA - 2000-10-12 - Verity Inc. (Nasdaq: VRTY), a leading provider of infrastructure software that powers enterprise and e-commerce portals as well as e-business applications, today announced that Fish4, a consumer internet brand, plans to implement Verity's key portal infrastructure technologies, including advanced search, navigate and view capabilities, across its Web sites .. The Verity K2 Toolkit will enable Fish4 to collect and index up to half a million advertisements from across the UK every working day, and will help its customers find the information they need quickly and easily. Fish4 will also implement Verity Profiler for sophisticated off-line data cleansing, enabling load balancing and increased response time for complex queries.

Fish4 offers online public access to hundreds of thousands of classified advertisements including cars, jobs and homes. Originally launched as ADHunter in 1997, Fish4 re-branded and launched its four Web sites, fish4cars, fish4jobs, fish4homes and the fish4it online directory, covering more than two million businesses, in 1999.

"As our business grows, the amount of information we need to offer users is rapidly increasing. We needed advanced portal infrastructure technologies that could handle increasing volumes of content and allow for unlimited growth of users, queries and advertisements," said Sue Falcke, operations director for Fish4. "We chose Verity because it offers an extremely powerful knowledge retrieval solution that has the added advantage of being extremely scalable. Verity has proved that it can adapt and grow to reflect our changing business needs."

According to Simon Atkinson, UK managing director of Verity, "As the online market place becomes more crowded, and users more demanding, companies without suitable knowledge retrieval solutions will suffer. The Verity K2 Toolkit's high availability, precision and performance gives Fish4 the flexibility and scalability it needs to ensure that its users have the most up-to-date information at their fingertips."

About Verity K2 Toolkit

Verity K2 Toolkit provides a powerful infrastructure for the development of corporate, e-commerce and B2B portals. Verity K2 Toolkit allows brokered search across multiple servers and multiple CPUs to provide the most relevant search results from many information sources without sacrificing the speed or accuracy of the results displayed. As the number of users, queries, or amount of data increases, K2 applications can keep pace with increased demands by adding new CPUs or servers to the network without bringing down the application. Providing 24x7 fault tolerant operations, the Verity K2 Toolkit isolates failures of individual nodes or servers from the rest of the system, ensuring that applications are available when they are needed.

The Verity K2 Toolkit supports tight integration with both COM and Javaobject models, allowing easy integration across a wide range of application servers and Java environments. With industry-standard C language APIs, Verity's K2 Toolkit helps speed portal application deployment and gives customers added flexibility in application development, especially for e-commerce and business-to-business application solutions.
