Autonomy Powers Royal Sun Alliance's Color, B2B E-Commerce Service Targeting SMEs
Autonomy moves into SME supply chain management market covering everything from office supplies to advice on tax
CAMBRIDGE, England, 14th August 2000 - Autonomy Corporation plc (NASDAQ: AUTN, EASDAQ: AUTN) announced today that its technology has been adopted by Royal Sun Alliance to power Color (www.usecolor.com), one of the UK's first B2B e-commerce sites designed specifically for the supplies and services needs of small businesses.
Color (www.usecolor.com) is a comprehensive on-line service dedicated to businesses with up to 25 employees, offering every day, practical help to enable managers to run their businesses more efficiently.
Using Autonomy, users of the site's Buying Zone will be able to retrieve information conceptually, in order to identify the best deals on office supplies and computer products. This will enable them to make savings of up to 65% on list prices.
Autonomy will also enable industry-specific newsfeeds to be automatically personalised to the needs and interests of each user, providing them with relevant information to help support their business decisions.
Color has been developed to provide professional advice and assistance as well as access to bulk-purchasing discounts that are often unavailable to smaller firms. These services, which include help with legal issues, health & safety, tax, VAT and employment law, are provided by qualified professionals and are available around the clock, at a time to suit the customer.
Josephine Fawkes, Marketing Director of Color, said: "Firms with less than 25 people have long been the entrepreneurial heartland and the engine room of the British economy, but they have been neglected, overlooked and mistreated by business supply chains which often consider them too small to warrant the service they deserve. We want to help firms by easing their peripheral problems, so they can focus on their core business and run their company more efficiently and successfully."
Color is the first site to bring consumer-style e-commerce and portal services within reach of a B2B audience. The service is free, and will also incorporate free connection to the Internet.
Dr. Mike Lynch, Group CEO of Autonomy, said: "The B2B e-commerce market has, until now, remained a relatively unexplored area in this country, particularly in the SME space. Now, Color has had the vision to address this market in a way which brings real knowledge gains and financial benefits to its users. We are delighted that Color has chosen Autonomy as the enabling technology for this innovation."
