Screaming Media Teams with Virage to Add Video to its Digital Content Network

Agreement Broadens Syndication and Distribution Reach for Virage Customers

SAN MATEO, California—July 6, 2000 —Virage, Inc. [NASDAQ: VRGE], a leading provider of software products and application services that enable video for the Internet, and ScreamingMedia (www.screamingmedia.com), an aggregator and e-distributor of digital content on the Web, today announced an agreement to integrate the Virage Video Application Platform into ScreamingMedia's digital content network. As a result of the agreement, ScreamingMedia will be able to deliver on-demand streaming video to its network of more than 800 subscriber web sites. The agreement also enables Virage to provide its content owner customers with access to the members of ScreamingMedia's digital content network, creating new outlets for syndicating their video content.

ScreamingMedia enhances its ability to deliver streaming video content - including filtered news feeds and broadcasts from around the world - to the hundreds of web sites in its digital content network, and integrate the video seamlessly into the sites, by leveraging Virage's software and Internet video infrastructure. ScreamingMedia currently distributes news, feature and photo content from over 460 brand-name and niche providers, including the New York Times Syndicate, Wine Spectator, Scripps Howard News Service and Salon.com.

Virage supplies the world's leading media and entertainment companies, enterprises and Internet destinations with software and application services that allow them to publish, manage and distribute their video content over the Internet or intranets. Virage's growing network of customers includes the BBC, CSPAN, CBS, CNN, FOX Sports and PBS. The agreement with ScreamingMedia gives Virage customers easy access to a broad range of Internet destination sites for controlled distribution of their video content.

"More and more our clients are demanding fresh, subject-specific rich media to offer to their end-users. It makes the site experience richer and the site stickier," said Kevin Clark, CEO of ScreamingMedia. "We're delighted to be working with Virage to help provide it."

"We are excited to provide ScreamingMedia with the ability to add video to their digital content network," said Paul Lego, chairman and CEO of Virage. "Not only does it further enrich ScreamingMedia's compelling content offering, it broadens our footprint on the Web and gives our content-owning customers the ability to very easily syndicate video to hundreds of web sites within ScreamingMedia's network."
