Javu Technologies and Virage Team Up to Provide Enhanced Browser-Based Video Editing With Dynamic Web Video Publishing to the Web

Javu Technologies Integrates Virage Internet Video Platform

STREAMING MEDIA EAST CONFERENCE, NEW YORK—June 14, 2000 —Virage Inc., a leading provider of products and application services that enable video for the Internet, has announced that Javu Technologies, Inc. has teamed with Virage to provide videomakers with a comprehensive online editing and publishing platform. The agreement allows Javu to combine its sophisticated JavuNet network-centric video creation and editing technology with the Virage Video Application Platform to deploy, manage and distribute video. The combined technologies will give users the tools they need to create and distribute video over the Internet. The solution will also be made available to enterprise customers as well as service providers and can be customized to suit their end users.

The Virage VideoLogger™ and Virage Video Application Server™ provide Javu with the ability to add intelligent indexing, search and browse capabilities to the Javu content creation and management interface. For example, the Javu editing and clip management facilities can be greatly expanded to include fine-grained search and retrieval of relevant clips. The requested clips could then be simply dragged onto the timeline and edited into a finished piece. Once assembled, the Virage-enabled footage can be published for easy distribution across any content delivery network.

"The marriage of these two technologies will unite network-centric digital media creation and distribution," said Michael Samoilov, president and CEO of Javu Technologies. "With Virage's indexing and search products we can now expand our solution to provide comprehensive professional ASP applications for any user to produce and publish multimedia over the Internet easily and cost-effectively."

"Javu is setting new standards for web-based video manipulation and content creation. We are pleased to be working with Javu and their cutting-edge technologies," said Carlos Montalvo, vice president of marketing at Virage. "Javu's commitment to the Virage platform will provide over 100 Virage media & entertainment and enterprise customers access to powerful online editing capabilities."

The JavuNet applications from Javu Technologies provide online users with high-performance collaborative server-based video, image, text and audio creation, editing and management right from their desktops over the Internet or an intranet. Javu gives users a non-linear drag-and-drop ASP system that allows editors to easily build full-featured videos from within an Internet browser, simplifying the content creation process and making it more economical. By integrating the Virage Video Application Platform, Javu can develop the means to provide their users a centralized interface for retrieving footage, assembling and editing it, then indexing and publishing the finished piece to the Web.

"Our engineers discovered our system architectures were exceedingly similar and well suited for tight integration and a seamless offering to consumers," said Dmitry Shklovsky, vice president of product development. "Virage and Javu have similar philosophies of openness and extensibility in their product offering." Both platforms offer methods for allowing enterprises and service providers to customize the applications for their end users. The combination of Virage's indexing capabilities with Javu's video editing environment will give customers a complete, one-stop solution for all their video management, editing and distribution needs.
