Red Herring Selects Virage to Publish Conferences to the Web
Leading Technology Trends Resource Will Use Virage's Application Services to Transform All Conferences in 2000 into Broadband Content
San Mateo, California—March 20, 2000—Virage Inc., a leading provider of interactive video search products and application services, announced that Red Herring, the leading online publication for identifying trends in technology, has signed a year-long contract to use Virage's video search application services. Virage will transform Red Herring's year 2000 conferences into a multi-purpose library of interactive video available on Redherring.com. Using Virage Interactive services to integrate on-demand, searchable conference material throughout their site, Red Herring is able to expand their attendee base by providing a virtual conference experience. Virage's technology also provides Red Herring the ability to easily reuse their valuable conference material for continued discussion in online forums and to provide users with immediate access to information.
"Virage makes web video useful and compelling in a way that simple streaming does not, " said Alison Murdock, vice president of events at Red Herring. "Virage's video publishing capabilities turn our conference video into a library of interactive web video clips that we can easily repurpose. These interactive clips can be used to enhance sections across our site or to generate on-going discussions, providing attendees and non-attendees alike with useful, compelling information."
Red Herring is providing Virage with video from seven conferences that run throughout the year, including their Venture Market series, Venture 2000, Herring on Hollywood and NDA 2000. Virage also intends to create searchable video of Red Herring's Entrepreneur Workshops, which occur the first day of the Venture market series.
"We are pleased to be working with Red Herring to help them leverage their first-rate conference assets," said Carlos Montalvo, vice president of marketing at Virage. "Red Herring not only leads the pack in identifying technologies that will impact the future of business, they are also smart about leveraging their own business."
With video search capabilities provided by Virage, visitors to Red Herring's site can experience the conferences 24/7 and have immediate access to the information that is of most interest to them. Visitors will be able to search conferences both by traditional search means (e.g. by topic, speaker, keyword, company, session title) or by means of an automatically generated and hyperlinked video table of contents for each conference session, which allows focused navigation through the conference material. The video viewer will also provide links into Red Herring's Venture Market South video discussion forum, so that visitors can join an online discussion about the sessions and the topics they raise.
Virage will provide also provide Red Herring with the latest features in their video publishing platform: a multimedia preference window lets visitors choose the viewing format of their choice: RealPlayer or WindowsMedia.
