Autonomy Signs Partnership with Admiral

CAMBRIDGE, England, 9th March 2000 - Autonomy announced today that it has signed a strategic agreement with Admiral, a leading international IT services company.

The partnership will leverage Admiral's acknowledged skills in Knowledge Management and key sector expertise in the Finance, Telcos and Media marketplaces. As well as offering focused vertical sector portals, Admiral will be working closely with Autonomy to embed Autonomy's 'Active Knowledge' technology into applications, enabling clients to offer their customers effective, personalised access to the Web and other sources of business-critical information. Commenting on the agreement, Admiral spokesman Richard Nethercott said "We are delighted to formalise and extend our existing relationship with Autonomy and to be part of extending this exciting technology into an expanding marketplace." Dr. Mike Lynch, Autonomy CEO added "Admiral has a strong presence in key markets where the Autonomy toolset adds real competitive edge. We are confident that our partnership will reap significant mutual benefits through the delivery of innovative solutions to our clients.",

At the heart of Autonomy's software is a pattern recognition technology which has the ability to analyse a piece of text and identify the main ideas. This enables the software to then determine how the text should be categorised, who should see it, what other relevant material it should be linked to, and how it should be tagged - which all happens automatically. Autonomy's technology is currently being used by a number of other high-profile users worldwide, including breathe.net, SFGate, News Corporation, Associated Press, Butterworths, Reuters and Macmillan.
