Filenet's Panagon eSolutions Partners with Autonomy to Provide Advanced Personalization for Corporate Portal Applications
Technology Will Help Customers Fine Tune Critical Web Content Portal Searches
KIRKLAND, Wash., (Feb 16, 2000) - Panagon eSolutions, a business unit of FileNET Corporation (Nasdaq: FILE), and Autonomy, a leading portal technology provider, today announced a strategic partnership to add Autonomy's advanced categorization and personalization technology to Panagon eSolutions' portal products.
With Autonomy technology, Panagon eSolutions will fine-tune its identification and classification tools for portal users. "Autonomy's technology can analyze and rank the ideas within any piece of text, regardless of its origin. Because of this unique capability, we can now automate some of the most time consuming tasks associated with building and maintaining a portal'" says Mark Chealander, vice president and general manager of Panagon eSolutions. These tasks include categorizing, tagging, linking and personalizing vast volumes of internal and external information from newsfeeds, emails, and websites to Lotus Notes and other documents.
"Panagon eSolutions is leveraging Autonomy's technology to provide customers with superior web content categorization and advanced personalization capabilities," said Chealander. "We can proactively deliver personalized information through our portal interface. In addition, the technology will allow these portals to learn and recommend content while the user is actively using the portal."
According to Autonomy CEO Mike Lynch, "Autonomy-powered Panagon eSolutions products will allow organizations to quickly deploy eBusiness portals. Panagon eSolutions provides companies with a robust portal offering that solves many of the challenges associated with deploying an eBusiness solution. By using Autonomy to automatically categorize and personalize information, Panagon eSolutions' customers will be able to reduce operating costs, increase efficiencies and better meet the needs of individual users."
"Savvy eBusinesses are beginning to appreciate a new source of value to be gained from raising the quality of content-centered Web interactions," said Hadley Reynolds, Research Director at The Delphi Group, Boston, MA. "These interactions gain richness and dimension by incorporating content that is not only secure and accurate, but is also intelligent, suggestive, business-focused, and process-aware. The new standard is content that learns how it is used, what other content, process, or person it might be related to, and how to present itself as needed in the context of an eBusiness interaction. The integration of Autonomy technology allows Panagon eSolutions to leapfrog into best of class configurations for the new challenges in both eContent and eProcess software."
"Partnerships between content management vendors and information-access product vendors can be considered strategic moves to address the demand for web-based systems with portal functionality," states Simon Hayward, research director with the Gartner Group. Gartner has predicted the worldwide business to business eCommerce market will jump from $145 billion in 1999 to $7.29 trillion in 2004. By 2004, business to business eCommerce will represent 7% of the forecasted $105 trillion total global sales transactions.
The added technology also allows Panagon eSolutions to address portal applications for tracking how content is used by constituents -- to determine its value and establish best practices approaches in terms of leveraging key content. For instance, in many financial services markets including investment and commercial lending, customer relationship managers need to be up to date and knowledgeable on a wide range of complex products, economic trends and industry developments. Panagon eSolutions' information portals enable organizations to focus on the key information necessary to serve the customer.
Panagon eSolution's portals allow users to easily find products and customers within corporate databases or the Internet from relevant background information such as market research and news feeds. The portal's content recommendation tool provides additional sources of information, such as industry-related articles and white papers.
