Sybase Licenses Autonomy's Technology For Use In Its Enterprise Portal Product
7th February 2000 CAMBRIDGE, England - Autonomy, Inc. today announced that Sybase, Inc. is embedding Autonomy's core technology within its enterprise portal product, code-named Sybase OpenDoor, to help companies add advanced categorization and personalization capabilities to their portal solutions.
Autonomy's technology can analyze and rank the ideas within any piece of text, regardless of its language. Because of this unique capability, Autonomy's technology automates some of the most time consuming tasks associated with building and maintaining a portal. These functions include categorizing, tagging, linking and personalizing vast volumes of internal and external unstructured information from newsfeeds, emails and websites to Lotus Notes and word processing documents.
According to Autonomy CEO Mike Lynch, Autonomy's technology complements Sybase OpenDoor. "Sybase provides companies with an enterprise portal product that integrates business applications and databases. By using Autonomy's technology to automatically categorize, tag and link unstructured information, Sybase can offer a complete enterprise portal product that integrates business applications, databases, Web content and internal unstructured information."
Sybase senior vice president and general manager, Enterprise Solutions Division, Richard LaBarbera, stressed the advantage of embedding Autonomy's technology into Sybase OpenDoor. "Autonomy's technology is an ideal fit for Sybase's EP product because it automates operations like categorization, hypertext linking and the profiling of users, creating a more personalized portal," said Richard LaBarbera. "Sybase's complete enterprise-class product, combined with Autonomy's advanced personalization features, offers the critical functionality for ensuring e-Business success by enabling users to customize their portal, identify precise information, and deliver it quickly and efficiently to the right person."
