Autonomy Wins European Award For Best Internet Product

Portal-in-a-Box™ is voted Product of the Year in Scandinavia

3rd February 2000 CAMBRIDGE, England - Autonomy announced today that the company has been awarded the Internet Product of the Year prize in Scandinavia for its Portal-in-a-Box product. The award was given by Kapital Data , a leading Scandinavian publisher of business IT news, at an award ceremony in Oslo.

The award jury commented: "Today's knowledge workers drown in information. Too much time is spent arranging and searching for information that already exists, but in unknown locations. The future workplace will be more integrated and personalised. With Portal in a Box, Autonomy have a product that actually does this, and that enables organizations to handle information totally automatically in their corporate enterprise Portals."

Dag Rønsen, the Managing Director of Autonomy Nordic, said: "Autonomy is thrilled to have achieved this award in such a competitive arena. Ever since we entered the market the interest in our technology has been growing rapidly in Norway, Sweden, and Denmark, and we are now planning to take the technology to customers and partners elsewhere in the Nordic region. This award, together with our recent signing of Ericsson as a customer, is a clear indication that Autonomy's technology is now taking the leading role in the portal market."

At the heart of Autonomy's software is a pattern recognition technology which has the ability to analyse a piece of text and identify the main ideas. This allows the software to then determine how the text should be categorised, who should see it, what other relevant material it should be linked to, and how it should be tagged - which all happens automatically. Autonomy's technology is currently being used by a number of other high-profile corporates, electronic publishers and e-commerce providers worldwide, including Ericsson breathe.net, SFGate, News Corporation, Associated Press, the BBC, Reuters and Macmillan.
