Caredata.com Licenses Autonomy Technology For Citeline Web Research Tools

San Francisco, Calif. (December 14 1999) - Autonomy, Inc. today announced that Caredata.com (NASDAQ/NM: CDCM), a leading healthcare intelligence and Internet content provider, will embed Autonomy's core technology into its CiteLine Web research tools. By using Autonomy's technology, Caredata.com will be able to add depth and breadth of information and advanced research services to the CiteLine suite of products.

According to Autonomy CEO Mike Lynch, Caredata.com offers healthcare professionals sophisticated research tools and access to comprehensive collections of medical information. "By using Autonomy's technology, Caredata.com will make it even easier for CiteLine visitors to get the latest medical findings," said Lynch. "With Autonomy's technology, Caredata.com will be able to update and organize disease, news and clinical trial sources into easy-to-navigate, Yahoo-like directories."

Because Autonomy's technology is capable of automatically identifying the main ideas in any piece of text, it automates the cumbersome tasks involved with maintaining collections of information-rich Web sites. "With Autonomy's technology, Caredata.com's editorial staff won't have to waste valuable time and talent tagging content," said Lynch. "Instead they can concentrate on creating the most useful and comprehensive healthcare resource while Autonomy's technology automates some of the more tedious aspects of categorizing, tagging, and hypertext linking information."

Caredata.com Senior Vice President Zorba Lieberman noted that Autonomy's technology, combined with CiteLine's editorial content management, will help Caredata.com do an even better job of maximizing the Web for business research. "The Web is a great place to access information, but healthcare-related information needs are usually quite specific," said Lieberman. "We know that users get frustrated with traditional keyword-based search technologies because they deliver a lot of irrelevant information."

Because Autonomy's advanced pattern recognition technology can identify the main ideas in any piece of text, it will help CiteLine users locate relevant information, no matter how specific or arbitrary it is. "With Autonomy's technology a professional will be able to use natural language to describe the query and get much more accurate results," said Lieberman. "For example, when a user wants to find out if sumatriptan or rizatriptan is more effective for treating migraines, he or she won't have to wade through mountains of general articles on migraines. Instead, the user will get the comparison needed up front."
