Virage Introduces Free MyLogger™ Video Publishing Application at Streaming Media West '99 Conference

Powerful new tool automatically transforms streaming media files into searchable and interactive web content MyLogger is now available for free download from Real.com and Virage.com STREAMING MEDIA WEST CONFERENCE, SAN JOSE, California —December 7, 1999—Virage Inc., the recognized market leader in interactive video search products and services, announced today the launch of MyLogger™, a powerful new application for the streaming media industry. Based on Virage's award-winning video search technology, MyLogger automatically transforms streaming media files into searchable and interactive web content. MyLogger empowers video producers to easily create dynamic visual summaries of their video content and publish these summaries to the Web.

"MyLogger is a very powerful application that has enormous value to any video producer publishing RealVideo to the Internet," said Mark Bretl, vice president, Real Networks, Inc." It gives producers excellent visibility into RealSystem G2 files, and helps web masters better integrate video into their sites. And since it supports the latest RealSystem G2 formats, it can be used to enrich video files with descriptive information that can be easily found by Internet search engines." "MyLogger allows us to put our award-winning video search technology into the hands of anyone publishing video to the Web," said Paul Lego, CEO of Virage. "This breakthrough application delivers the benefits of interactive and searchable video to thousands of independent web producers. With MyLogger, content creators now have a way to automatically publish dynamic video presentations and manage their growing collections of video clips." MyLogger's automatic storyboarding and indexing capabilities enable video producers to transform the cumbersome web video viewing experience into an interactive, user-driven one by allowing viewers to quickly locate and stream segments of interest in a video clip.

Users can also create a "table of contents" for their video clips by marking segments with keywords and other content descriptors. They can then use one of several built-in, customizable video templates to publish their video overview to the Web. Publishing the video summary into pre-designed HTML templates gives users a quick and easy way to showcase and deploy their content, which can be streamed from any point by simply clicking on the representative thumbnail image, or keyframe. Just like a card catalog unlocks the wealth of information in a library, these one-page visual summaries make web video much more accessible and enjoyable for even the most bandwidth-challenged end users.

With MyLogger's video segmenting and indexing capabilities, content producers can better manage and organize their video clips. When combined with a video search engine, such as Virage's Video Search Tools product, MyLogger enables producers to publish their video summaries and search across their entire video collection from a central location. By organizing their content in this way, producers can quickly find and deploy the right clip, or point other people to this clip.

Using a plug-in architecture, MyLogger can support a variety of video formats including RealSystem G2™, Windows Media® and QuickTime®. It can be used to enrich digital video files, such as the RealNetworks' .rm file format, by allowing users to add descriptive information that increases Internet visibility to search engines.

MyLogger will be available as a free download from http://www.virage.com/mylogger and a number of other download locations, including http://devzone.real.com/rdp/index.html (for members of the RealDeveloper DevZone). For a limited time, MyLogger will also showcase FX Palo Alto Laboratory's Manga publishing plug-in that allows users represent their video clips as video "comic books" for easy visualization and printing. By varying the size of keyframes based on their importance, Manga provides a single page representation of the video content that gives information at a glance about the duration and importance of scenes.
