Virage Announces Major Upgrades to Award-Winning Video Search Product Line
New AudioLogger™ 2.0 adds major enhancements including Spanish language support New VideoLogger™ 3.1 adds support for Sun™ platform STREAMING MEDIA WEST CONFERENCE, SAN JOSE, California —December 7, 1999—Virage Inc., the recognized market leader in interactive video search products and services, announced today the releases of AudioLogger 2.0 and VideoLogger 3.1 These two new products incorporate the latest enhancements to Virage's award-winning video cataloging platform. AudioLogger 2.0 brings powerful new features and improvements to automate the intelligent extraction of information from the audio portion of a video signal. Utilizing a new architecture that supports multiple languages, AudioLogger 2.0 is now available for both English or Spanish language applications. The first installation of the Spanish version of AudioLogger will be at Telecinco, Spain's largest broadcaster. VideoLogger 3.1 now supports Sun Enterprise servers and the Solaris™ Operation Environment with its Software Developer Kit. VideoLogger 3.1 also incorporates improvements to the user interface that significantly accelerate the video cataloging process.
"With the releases of VideoLogger 3.1 and AudioLogger 2.0, Virage continues to meet or exceed the demands of our video rich enterprise customers," said Paul Lego, CEO of Virage. "Content owners deploying searchable video throughout their organization can count on Virage to deliver the robust, 24 by 7, mission-critical applications and solutions that have made us the industry leader.""Our team at Telecinco is deploying one of the world's most advanced news production and archive systems. The dependability of each component in the strategy is critical," said Jose Luis Romero, technical director of Telecinco. "We performed exhaustive benchmark tests of multiple competing technology vendors. After evaluating their products, their workflow integration, track record and business strategies, Virage came out the clear winner." VideoLogger "watches, listens to and reads" a video signal in real time. Automatically extracting information about the video content in real-time, it provides a rich, frame-accurate index that offers immediate, nonlinear access to any segment of a video. Using VideoLogger 3.1, enterprises can build highly sophisticated video search solutions for delivering video on the Internet or intranets. The VideoLogger platform is used by a number of third-party developers, such as media asset management and database vendors, as the front-end video input component of their systems. With the Solaris version of the SDK, developers and third-party integrators can now develop remote control and video server control modules on the Sun platform.
Along with the SDK enhancement, VideoLogger 3.1 users will find new advanced clip marking capabilities that significantly improve production efficiencies in the logging process. For example, VideoLogger 3.1 offers user-defined preview keyframe selections for clips and entire video files, allowing better video clip organization and identification.
A companion product to VideoLogger, AudioLogger "listens" to the audio portion of the video signal to extract a rich index of audio information that enhances the VideoLogger index. With version 2.0, the AudioLogger architecture now supports integration of any foreign language speech recognition engine. AudioLogger 2.0 is currently available for both English and Spanish language applications. The first installation of the Spanish version of AudioLogger will be at Telecinco, Spain's largest broadcaster, as part of their digital newsroom and archive transformation project.
Virage's audio indexing platform is designed to enhance the video index in 24x7 video production and video publishing environments. Other new feature include: User Programmable Audio Classification—Users can now program their own classifications of audio, including unique sounds—such as program jingles—that identify specific points in the video content. By automatically identifying and registering exactly where these sounds occur in the program, AudioLogger provides users with a powerful navigation mechanism.
Digital File Ingest—AudioLogger2.0 supports the ingest of digital video and audio files including RealVideo®, Windows Media®, QuickTime™ and various file formats.
Speaker Change Detection—AudioLogger's Speaker Identification engine now detects whenever a speaker changes. This feature makes it possible to associate blocks of text with a particular speaker, thereby enhancing video navigation and search.
Inverse Keyword Filtering— AudioLogger 2.0 allows users to filter out the words they do not want to save in the video index. With this feature, users can eliminate low-value words from the index, thereby enabling efficient storage.
Other improvements—AudioLogger 2.0 also offers improvements to the user interface and its editing capabilities, such as the ability to mark any block of text generated from the audio identification engine and save it as a text file for print out.
