Leading Edge and Virage partner to integrate Virage's award-winning video indexing products into the UCA framework

WASHINGTON, DC—December 1, 1999—Virage Inc., the recognized market leader in interactive video search products and services, and Leading Edge Design and Systems (LEDS), a leading provider of engineering and multimedia services and systems integration to the Intelligence Community, announced that they have teamed up to develop software that integrates the Virage products into the Unified Cryptologic Architecture (UCA) framework. UCA compliance ensures that Virage's products will conform to standards set by the Intelligence Community for delivery of intelligence data.

"We see Virage VideoLogger™ as the cornerstone for cataloging video assets in the Intelligence Community," said Joe Gordon, president of LEDS. "The software's open architecture allows us to rapidly customize and extend the products to achieve UCA compliance." The key ingredient of the UCA is a common information infrastructure that provides interoperability across the Intelligence Community, so that large amounts of data can be moved rapidly, and securely, to where it is needed. LEDS is working with Virage to develop software that will integrate the VideoLogger into the UCA framework. This compliance will greatly simplify its use by the Intelligence Community in future projects by decreasing or eliminating the development work needed.

"Leading Edge and Design Systems is a significant government integrator in Virage's developer program," said Carlos Montalvo, VP of Marketing. "Their efforts and expertise will put a powerful commercial off-the-shelf tool in the hands of the Intelligence Community." Virage VideoLogger provides automatic indexing of video content as it gets recorded. VideoLogger "watches, listens to and reads" video, automatically extracting a wealth of information including keyframes, audio profiles, closed captioned text and time codes that serves as a frame accurate index back to the video. This index can be saved in real time directly to a database or other asset management system while the video is being digitized. Once the video is digitized, the video content and its associated information can be organized, searched, edited and distributed in a secure, reliable manner.
