Announcing the First Ever Automatic Classification of Electronic Records AutoRecords™
Cambridge, England (November 9, 1999) Provenance, the world leader in Electronic Recordkeeping Systems (ERS) and the producer of ForeMost Enterprise, has partnered with Knowledge Management Leader, Autonomy Inc. to offer AutoRecords, a solution for the automatic classification of electronic records.
"The AutoRecords solution is an industry first, removing the last obstacle for large scale acceptance of ERS solutions," says Mark Hogan, Provenance VP of Worldwide Sales and Marketing. "In a dramatically different approach to Electronic Recordkeeping, this partnership eliminates all end user responsibility for the filing and classification of important information."
Autonomy Inc. is an internationally recognized Knowledge Management Company respected for its groundbreaking work. Autonomy provides intelligent software capable of analyzing documents and extracting information from the text in determining their main ideas and context. This advanced technology is achieved using proprietary pattern matching, a technology developed by researchers from Cambridge University.
Presently, all ERS solutions require input from the end user to properly capture and classify important information. With AutoRecords, all electronic information is automatically captured and processed, not by the end user, but by an automatic process dramatically increasing the speed and accuracy of classification for official records contained within large volumes of information.
According to Autonomy CEO, Dr. Michael Lynch, legal issues require organizations to implement a process for records retention, disposition and destruction. "Provenance, the ERS industry leader, is a natural partner for us. Because Autonomy understands the meaning of any piece of text, our software can automate the process of classifying, linking and delivering records based upon content," says Lynch. "This saves time and money, and will add significant value to Provenance's ability to track the location, distribution and lifecycle of information."
The AutoRecords solution enhances ForeMost Enterprise by "reading" and evaluating a document and automatically determining the correct record subject file category in creating an official record. The AutoRecords solution also includes a "vacuum cleaner" which searches through large legacy repositories, automatically classifying and filing documents as official records ensuring they are destroyed at the appropriate time.
By taking advantage of Autonomy's powerful technology, Provenance will further automate the management of information for corporate clients, government and defense by contributing to the accuracy and effectiveness of the retention and disposition of records.
"We are thrilled at the possibilities offered by this partnership," said Provenance President T.A. Summerlin. "The Records Management Industry has been asking for this solution for a long time and Provenance is proud to be the first ERS developer to respond to that need, adding another industry first to a long history of cutting edge solutions."
