Autonomy Expands European Operations

New Offices Across Germany, Italy, The Netherlands and Belgium

November 1, 1999 CAMBRIDGE, England - Autonomy announced today that it has expanded its European network with the opening of four new offices in Frankfurt, Milan, Brussels and Amsterdam. Eleven new sales and technical specialists will staff the new operations, which will operate under the management of Autonomy's Head of European Sales, Roberto Solimene.

The offices accelerate the company's expansion throughout Europe - a process that started earlier this year with the establishment of French headquarters in Paris and an acquisition in Oslo, as well as the signature of strategic alliances in Germany, Spain, Portugal, France, Italy and Switzerland. The expansion continues Autonomy's commitment to serving its partners' and customers' technical and commercial needs on a pan-European basis.

The eleven new hires have been recruited from strong commercial and technical backgrounds in Knowledge Management, E-Commerce and New Media technology. The German operations will be headed up by Dirk Zetzsche who has extensive experience of enterprise software, having previously worked with Siemens and Rank Xerox. The Benelux operations will be headed up by Eric Rousseau who joins from competitor Excalibur Technologies NV, having also previously worked with IBM. The Italian offices will be run by Corrado Broli, who also joins from competitor Excalibur Technologies.

European Marketing Director, Dominic Johnson, said: "These new operations will help Autonomy to continue to build upon its impressive growth, as well as providing a local infrastructure to support large-scale pan-European opportunities. We have been able to attract some high profile individuals because they see the potential that our language independent technology offers to continental Europe." The technology is currently in use in French, German, Spanish, Italian, Norwegian and Swedish, amongst other languages.

About Autonomy

Autonomy's software has the ability to analyze a piece of text and identify the main ideas. This enables the software to then determine how the text should be categorized, who should see it, what other relevant material it should be linked to, and how it should be tagged - which all happens automatically.

The technology has applications in New Media, E-commerce and Knowledge Management markets, and the company's customers include organizations such as breathe.net, Xoom.com, Pixelpark, News Corporation, Associated Press, Reuters, Macmillan, the Royal Mail, Procter & Gamble, Lucent Technologies, Merrill Lynch, British Aerospace, Unilever and the United States Department of Defense.

On 10 July 1998, the company went public on the EASDAQ Stock Exchange.
