ABCNEWS.com launches searchable video feature

Users are able to access video clips on demand from 'World News Tonight', 'Nightline' and ABC News video archives Sept. 16, 1999—ABCNEWS.com, the fastest growing news site on the Internet, has launched a searchable video feature enabling users to find video clips on demand from premier ABC News programming, including 'World News Tonight' and 'Nightline'. ABCNEWS.com users are able to search for the latest news by topic or navigate through a growing library of ABC News video assets by simply typing words or phrases of what they are searching for. By typing in keywords or phrases describing a subject, users are instantly taken to the segments of video that match their request. Users are then able to watch streaming video on their computers and read a transcript of what is being said. ABCNEWS.com uses video search technology by Virage for this service.

ABCNEWS.com also maintains a video/audio index at http://abcnews.go.com/sections/us/video_index/video_index.html.

"This service truly exemplifies the utility and credibility ABCNEWS.com offers its users," said Bernard Gershon, Vice President and General Manager, ABCNEWS.com, in making this announcement. "Being a 24-hour news service, ABCNEWS.com is pleased to provide its users access to ABC News' premier programming, like 'World News Tonight' and 'Nightline', and Virage's exceptional technology at their convenience." Since its inception, ABCNEWS.com has provided users with streaming video and audio. Each day, ABCNEWS.com streams live events, special reports and ABC News Radio reports.

ABCNEWS.com, the fastest growing news site on the Web, combines the editorial judgment of ABC News and the technical expertise of Infoseek to deliver the most credible and useful news site on the Internet. ABCNEWS.com, which provides 24-hour comprehensive coverage of international, national and local news, as well as sports, entertainment, business, technology, science and health reporting, delivers the news in a format that is quick and meaningful, leveraging the interactivity of the web to enhance and personalize its coverage. ABCNEWS.com can be found on the Web at http://abcnews.go.com. In addition, ABCNEWS.com has distribution partnerships with, among others, Infoseek, Alta Vista, and Palm Pilot. Netscape is a premier promotional partner and preferred provider of browser and server software for ABCNEWS.com.

About ABCNEWS.com A part of the GO Network, ABCNEWS.com is a joint venture of Buena Vista Internet Group, a division of The Walt Disney Company, and Infoseek Corporation. Recently, The Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) reached an agreement with Infoseek Corporation (Nasdaq:SEEK) to combine its Buena Vista Internet Group (BVIG) with Infoseek and create a single Internet business called go.com.
