Verity Selected to Power GSA Advantage!™ E-Commerce Site

Federal Government Implements Verity K2 Toolkit and Verity Knowledge Organizer to Add Scalable, Precise Navigation and Retrieval to Employee Acquisition Solution

SUNNYVALE, Calif. - 1999-08-31 - Verity, Inc. (Nasdaq: VRTY), a leading provider of knowledge retrieval solutions for the enterprise and Internet, today announced that its scalable Verity K2 ToolKit and add-on product Verity Knowledge Organizer have been selected by the General Services Administration's (GSA) Federal Supply Service (FSS) to power the GSA Advantage!™ On-line Shopping Service, http://www.fss.gsa.gov.

GSA Advantage! is an Internet e-commerce acquisition solution designed to allow federal government employees to access millions of quality products and services - and order them directly from their desktop PC. Verity has been selected to enhance the GSA system and make it more effective by providing powerful knowledge retrieval capabilities that help users find the information they are seeking, quickly and efficiently.

"Federal reform has vastly changed the procurement environment, doing away with bureaucratic red tape and putting buying responsibility into the hands of government managers," said Ed O'Hare, GSA's Deputy Chief Information Officer. "With Verity, we want to make it faster and easier for our customers to find the products and services they need and want to purchase."

Verity Precision Products Enhance Retrieval in Large E-commerce Collection

With Verity Knowledge Organizer, the GSA can reduce the cost of categorizing the contents of its electronic catalog, while automatically organizing the information the way it organizes its catalog, by familiar products and services. Once categories are created, customers can browse information quickly using a search-and-navigate interface similar to popular Internet services like Yahoo!, Excite or AOL.

Complementing Knowledge Organizer will be Verity's K2 Toolkit, the underlying power for GSA Advantage! K2 employs a network of brokers and servers to offer scalable, parallel searching. With Verity's K2 Toolkit, the GSA gains the flexibility to support a growing collection of products, services, users and high-performance precision fault-tolerant systems.

"Verity's K2 Toolkit is designed to meet the scaling requirements of customers like the GSA with the need to provide customers with accurate search results, without sacrificing performance," said Ken Newcomer, Director of Federal Sales at Verity, Inc. "Similarly, Verity Knowledge Organizer will allow the GSA to provide its customers with fast and easy access to key catalog content, so that they can navigate, find and buy products and services more quickly and efficiently."
