Autonomy Signs Significant New Contracts

July 13, 1999 - Autonomy Corporation plc announces a number of new contract wins achieved in the second quarter of the financial year. These new business wins are broadly spread across the Group's core markets.

Knowledge Management and New Media.

Commenting on these contract wins, Dr Mike Lynch, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Autonomy Corporation plc, today said:

"Autonomy is continuing to build its presence in its core markets as well as driving excellent growth in our OEM business. We are seeing considerable momentum building as the business benefits of our products begin to be more fully understood, appreciated and accepted.

I am particularly pleased to be able to announce significant licensing deals with flagship OEM customers in the United States. These licensing agreements will help fuel our future growth as well as drive our positions in core and non-core markets accordingly."

New Contracts

Second quarter direct sales wins include:

Lucent Technologies: further significant rollouts of Autonomy's Knowledge Management software has continued at Lucent taking the total value under the contract to date to over $600,000.

Butler Group: Europe's leading knowledge management analysts have chosen Autonomy's Portal-in-a-Box™ to power their own industry-focused portal site.

US Government: founded in January, Autonomy's Washington-based federal sales operation has demonstrated continued success with further high-security knowledge management implementations. Additional details are restricted for security reasons.

City of London Police: a mission-critical law enforcement portal increases the number of police forces in the UK using Autonomy's technology and represents over 50% of the market.

EGG: Prudential's successful direct financial services site, EGG, has bought Autonomy's content management software to manage the increasing amounts of financial information available to its consumers. It will also improve the navigation of the site by providing advanced search facilities for its anticipated two million customers.

Seattle Times: Autonomy technology will automatically categorize editorial content as well as classified ads for the North West's main online newspaper.

Institute of Electronic Electrical Engineers (IEEE): Autonomy is automating the handling of all the online content for America's leading technical authority, which currently produces 30% of the world's published literature in electrical engineering, computers and control technology.

New OEM Agreements

In addition to agreements with Nexor, Aenied, Global Recall, Verge, Portera and Insight, new OEM partners have entered into royalty-based licensing agreements to incorporate Autonomy's technology into their software solutions. These include:

Octane Software: this leading provider of customer care solutions for the Digital 1000 has concluded an OEM relationship to embed Autonomy's technology into their product for call centers and help desks to automate the routing and categorization of all incoming email traffic.

FutureTense: has licensed Autonomy's core technology into its flagship product line, the Internet Publishing System. Autonomy will help FutureTense customers fully automate the categorization, tagging and hyperlinking of large volumes of online information.

Autonomy's technology also will enable these customers to enhance consumers' experience by providing more personalized information and services, and advertisers with more targeted advertising opportunities.

Intraspect: has licensed Autonomy technology to create the next generation of collaborative knowledge portals. Intraspect customers will now be able to expedite the deployment of collaborative knowledge portals, while extracting maximum value from information in less structured formats, such as the plain prose found in emails, word processing documents, presentation programs and Web pages.

CNS: are integrating Autonomy technology into their Active Intranet product to provide an automated solution to the creation and maintenance of corporate intranets and provide access to information from other applications.

New Partners

Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC): a leading Fortune 500 technology integrator across the US has been recruited as a strategic partner focused at implementing Autonomy's knowledge management software across their own infrastructure as well as into their substantial client base.

Cap Gemini: the leading European management consulting and I.T. services group is working with Autonomy on their first joint customer, Prudential's direct financial services company EGG.

Morse: Autonomy has formalized a strategic partnership with Europe's leading technology integrator and their strategic consulting division Morse Hughes Rae, joining the ranks of Sun, SAP, Oracle, IBM and Hewlett Packard.

Pixel Park: Bertlesmann's leading multimedia company has been signed up by Autonomy, focusing specifically on Internet and ecommerce initiatives. This will significantly expand the Autonomy's presence in the German market.

Afina Sistemas: will be developing the Spanish market with Autonomy, as well as utilizing Portal-in-a-Box™ to build their own corporate site, Conda.net.
