Telemedia Systems And Virage Provide Frame-Accurate MPEG Video Searching And Browsing

Solution Brings True Off-line Editing in Web Browser to the Television and Video Production Markets LAS VEGAS, Nevada--April 19, 1999--Telemedia Systems Limited, a leading provider of video browse technology to the broadcast industry, and Virage, Inc., the pioneer and recognized market leader in providing products and technologies that make video searchable, today demonstrated frame-accurate MPEG1 video searching and browsing. The solution is made possible by the integration of Telemedia's SpectreView browse technology with Virage's VideoLogger™ and Video Search Tools. With this integration, broadcasters will now be able to easily search, access, control and manage video down to the frame or timecode level for professional-quality remote off-line browsing and editing using Internet technology. The announcement was made at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Convention in Las Vegas, NV, April 19-22.

In a broad agreement, the two companies will integrate their respective products, Telemedia's SpectreView browse technology with Virage's VideoLogger™ and Video Search Tools, in order to provide broadcast partners and customers with instant access to, and frame accurate control of, their video assets. Telemedia Systems will also join Virage's Developer and Partner Program.

"Because it is simply not possible to widely deploy high-resolution video on today's networks, a low bit-rate digital version combined with a rich search index is swiftly becoming the standard way in which digital media is managed," said John McCormick, Research Analyst, Frost & Sullivan. "As leaders in these two key application areas, Telemedia and Virage are well positioned to offer a powerful solution that should become a standard in the broadcast community." "Our customers in the television industry have consistently expressed the need for visibility and control down to the specific frame or SMPTE time code," said Paul Lego, CEO of Virage. "The combination of Virage's video search products with Telemedia's frame-accurate MPEG streaming video enables our customers to dramatically improve the way they manage video in the television production process. For instance, it is now possible to separate editorial decision-making from the actual editing process, significantly increasing video production efficiency and speed." "We are very excited about working with Virage to provide a uniquely powerful broadcast partnership," said Alan Chaney, Managing Director of Telemedia Systems Limited. "We believe that the most compelling aspect of this partnership is our deeply held, mutual concern for the stringent accuracy and reliability requirements of the television market." The combined solution will be made available as an option to Telemedia and Virage partners, as well as Virage customers.
