Omnibus selects virage as their preferred supplier of video cataloging and ingest software

Omnibus Selects Virage As Their Preferred Supplier Of Video Cataloging And Ingest Software Partnership Will Provide Complete Knowledge Management Solution To US and European Television Industry San Mateo, Calif.--Virage, the recognized market leader in providing products and technologies that make video searchable, and Omnibus Systems, a leading broadcast solutions company, announced today they are forming a strategic partnership to target broadcasters with a complete end to end solution for integrating media management solutions with news and transmission facilities.

The announcement was made during the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Convention in Las Vegas, April 19-22. Omnibus is located in the Las Vegas Convention Center, Booth LK-18049. Virage is located in the Sands Expo Center, S-1531.

Omnibus selected Virage as its premium supplier of video cataloging to provide broadcast customers with a complete solution that will enable them to manage their media assets more efficiently.

"We want to enable broadcasters, post-production and corporate facilities with the most powerful end-to-end solution available," said Ian Fletcher, technical director of Omnibus. "Bringing together the strengths of both our companies means our clients have a combined solution that is thoroughly market-tested, and ready to provide them with the most powerful asset management available." The Virage and Omnibus solution helps eliminate the manual processes typically associated with asset management. It intelligently automates ingesting of video and audio through the Virage VideoLogger™ and AudioLogger™ products from satellite feeds through production and final signal transmission and distribution.

Inspired by initial collaborative work at the UK's BBC, development of this joint solution will initially focus on providing a sophisticated Omnibus desktop link and user interface to the VideoLogger. The collaborative product is expected to be available by Summer, 1999. From the Omnibus system, the external link to VideoLogger will be facilitated by the Gamma (Global Asset and Media Management Applications) suite of programs, an interoperability link also announced by OmniBus today.

"Because of the complexity of the worldwide broadcast and video production market, it is imperative that the leading companies work together to meet customer needs," said Paul Lego, chief executive officer of Virage. "Virage is pleased to be working with a world class supplier such as Omnibus to provide a complete asset management and control system to broadcast networks, cable networks or television stations." About Omnibus Systems Omnibus Systems has designed and installed automation at more than 50 sites worldwide including the BBC, ITN and MTV-Europe (UK), KGO-TV, San Francisco, NOB and TMF (Holland), NRK (Norway) and TV 4 in Sweden where it helped create the world's first tapeless digital television station.
