Time Inc. New Media Selects Verity K2 Scalable Search Solution
Company Aims to Improve Retrieval Accuracy at its market-leading Web Sites with Verity's High-Performance, High-Precision Retrieval Software
SUNNYVALE, Calif - 1999-04-19 - Verity, Inc. (Nasdaq: VRTY), a leading provider of knowledge retrieval solutions for the enterprise and Internet, has announced that Time Inc. New Media has selected Verity's K2 Toolkit to build scalable information retrieval applications for its Web sites.
Verity's K2 Toolkit is a scalable search architecture designed for clustered symmetric processing, using a parallel software architecture of concurrent search brokers and search servers. Using Verity's K2 Toolkit, developers gain the flexibility to support a variety of applications, including single large document repositories, high-performance precision fault-tolerant systems and solutions where distributed data from Web servers, file servers and other content archives is coordinated through a centralized index management design.
"With the number of visitors to our site growing exponentially, we needed a solution that would scale to meet user demand while providing quick, accurate results," said Igor Shindel, Vice President of Technology and Finance at Time Inc. New Media. "K2 is a robust, precise and reliable search solution that will enhance the experience of the millions of visitors to our sites."
Shindel added, "Our five million unique weekly visitors generate approximately twenty-one to twenty-three million page views per week. We chose Verity K2 because it allows us to build rich search functionality into our Web-site applications, using the Sun Solaris operating system."
K2's precision is obtained through the proven Verity query language. Scalability of additional users, increased content and system performance is delivered by adding additional K2 servers, K2 brokers, processors, hardware nodes and disk access. Indexes are distributed evenly across the architecture for balanced throughput and the elimination of any single point of failure.
"Verity's K2 search server was designed to meet one of the Internet's toughest challenges-helping successful sites with large user communities continue to grow," said Ronald Weissman, Verity's Vice President of Strategy, Corporate Development and Corporate Marketing. "As a top tier destination, Time Inc. New Media wants to ensure that its performance matches the expansion of its customer base and the continued growth in its content. We are very pleased that the Time Inc. New Media team has chosen to work with Verity as it develops and expands its web destinations.
