Virage chosen by Intel to showcase capabilities of new Pentium II processor

NEW YORK, NY -- May 7, 1997 -- Virage®, the leading provider of enterprise solutions for managing collections of images and video, was chosen by Intel Corporation as the exclusive vendor to demonstrate the server-side capabilities of the new Pentium® II processor at the worldwide launch in New York City today. One of six companies chosen to demonstrate the features and benefits of the new processor, Virage shared the stage with other industry leaders: Adobe Systems, Merril Lynch, Microsoft, Softimage, and Sun Microsystems.

Virage demonstrated a visual asset management solution for images and video at the enterprise server level that leveraged the increased performance and multimedia capabilities of Intel's Pentium II processor. The solution allows all members of an organization to fully utilize valuable multimedia assets by combining breakthrough technology for managing object data with the power and reliability of standard object relational database management systems and the flexibility of Web-based distribution.

"Intel's commitment to offer Pentium II processors for servers demonstrates that multimedia performance is now an enterprise-wide issue," said Tom Stuart, vice president of marketing for Virage. "With the Pentium II processor's performance, Virage's visual asset management solution, and object-relational technology, enterprises are now able to distribute and share visual assets across entire organizations." Virage's demonstration drew upon several of the company's core technologies to show how organizations can more effectively store and repurpose visual assets, such as images and video. Breakthrough image processing and analysis technologies are tightly integrated with an object-relational database management system which presents information to users via a Web browser.

"Intel asked Virage to participate in the Pentium II processor launch because we felt their image processing and management solutions provided a good example to showcase the improved processing and multimedia capabilities of the Pentium II processor," said Ron Whittier, senior vice president and general manager, Intel Content Group. "Virage's enterprise-level solutions are the type of applications that Intel envisions running on Pentium II processor-based servers as organizations reach for answers to meet the demands of visual computing." The Pentium II processor launch event was held at 200 Fifth Club in New York. In attendance were press and industry analysts who spent the morning observing on-stage demonstrations and participating in the demo showcase. Financial analysts were offered the same opportunities in the afternoon.
