Autonomy Press Fact Sheet

Who We Are

Autonomy is a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise that helps organizations to derive meaning and value from their information, as well as mitigate the risks associated with those same assets. The company was founded in 1996 with a clear vision to dramatically change the way in which we interact with information and computers: Where computers adapt to our world rather than the other way around. With a global customer base of 20,000, more than 400 leading software vendors building their products on Autonomy technology, and a market capitalization over $7 billion, the company has grown into one of the most valuable software companies in the world.

Autonomy is acknowledged by industry analysts such as Gartner, IDC and Forrester Research, as the worldwide leader in high end information processing and management including enterprise search and information access.

What We Do

The volume of digital information is increasing exponentially with the explosion of unstructured information, such as emails, blogs, instant messaging, audio files, video clips, chat rooms and web pages. It offers incredible value if it can be harnessed, otherwise it represents a growing risk. Autonomy was founded out of pioneering research at Cambridge University with the mission to provide the software that automates operations on all enterprise information, allowing computers to harness the full richness of human information. Its groundbreaking technology, developed by acknowledged world experts and covered by 170 patents, uses a unique combination of Bayesian Inference and Shannon's Information Theory to form a conceptual and contextual understanding of any piece of electronic data, including unstructured information, be it text, email, voice or video.

"Autonomy dominates the enterprise search market"
IDC, 2008
"The World's Hottest Enterprise Software Company"
Information Week, May 2009

It is this technology that powers Autonomy's widely deployed enterprise information infrastructure platform, Intelligent Data Operating Layerâ„¢ (IDOL) and is the driving force behind the next major industry evolution, Meaning-Based Computing. Meaning-Based Computing signals the ability of computers to comprehend the concepts and context of data, enabling people to interact with information, ideas and understand their relationships to each other, no matter how they are expressed. Based on that understanding, these systems process information and perform sophisticated analysis operations with real business value automatically, proactively and in real-time. IDOL is emerging as the de-facto information infrastructure platform that organizations standardize on for all of their information processing needs. Global private and public organizations, including GlaxoSmithKline, HP and Bloomberg as well as an increasing number of OEMs have standardized on IDOL.

Technology

Autonomy is the acknowledged leader in Pan-Enterprise Search. Its capabilities go far beyond simple keyword search, providing an information infrastructure platform that addresses the entire spectrum of an organization's information processing needs.

The Intelligent Data Operating Layerâ„¢ (IDOL)

At the heart of Autonomy's infrastructure software is IDOL. IDOL sits above an organization's data and serves as a platform for the conceptual and contextual understanding of information in an enterprise. This complete infrastructure layer allows for the automatic categorization, tagging, linking, retrieval and profiling of all forms of unstructured information in real-time regardless of repository. It automatically analyzes any piece of information from 1,000 different content formats, including text, voice or video, across over 400 different content repositories, and delivers over 500 functions including hyperlinking, agents, summarization, taxonomy generation, retrieval, channels, clustering, eduction, profiling, collaboration and alerting. Keyword search is only one of those functions.

The IDOL platform provides a flexible framework incorporating the essential attributes of an enterprise infrastructure platform:

Scalability
A linearly scalable system that can process billions of documents.
Mapped Security
Delivering document and intra-document access control against user, group and role level entitlement.
Global Language Support
To enable the processing and delivery of content in multiple languages in real-time.
Support for Future Technologies
Delivered through an architecture that is extensible and can grow and adapt to new requirements and technologies.

Solutions For The Most Complex Information Problems

Autonomy's software powers the full spectrum of mission-critical enterprise applications including information access technology, pan-enterprise search, information governance, end-to-end eDiscovery and archiving, records management, business process management, customer interaction solutions, video and audio analysis, and Web solutions.

Pan-Enterprise Search platforms transcend company divisions, operating systems, language barriers and file types to automate the retrieval, processing, and management of information throughout a global organization. Autonomy's ability to extract meaning from information not only allows for conceptual retrieval but also generates extended functionality such as categorization, clustering, eduction, trending, visualization, and sentiment analysis. Autonomy offers the only fully FRCP compliant pan-enterprise search platform, producing auditable results that are passed to a legal hold function and avoid non-compliant techniques such as jump-outs.

Information Governance automates real-time policy management for legal hold, compliance, and disposition management based on forming a conceptual and contextual understanding of all enterprise information. Autonomy's unique technology represents a major step forward in reducing risks inherent in information by applying policy based on the meaning of the content of an email, document or phone recording instead of relying solely on its metadata.

End-to-End eDiscovery and Archiving solutions deliver enterprise-class software and on demand solutions (SaaS) that measure, manage and analyze the risks associated with information. This comprehensive technology is redefining Proactive Information Risk Management by automating the full spectrum of Consolidated Archiving, Enterprise Legal Hold, investigation and Early Case Assessment (ECA), full EDD processing, Active Policy Management, advanced review and production all on a single powerful platform. End-to-End eDiscovery allows organizations to proactively manage their data throughout the entire legal discovery process - from identification to preservation and collection, review and analysis, production and ultimately presentation. Autonomy is also the first and only vendor to create a consolidated archive of all information sources including email, IM, enterprise systems, voice and video, leveraging its reach into enterprise information sources for many of the Global 2000.

Business Process Management solutions unify people, paper and processes by embedding intelligence into a document that enables it to have a self understanding of its content. These Intelligent Document solutions use that understanding to guide people throughout the process lifecycle, providing them with the right information and right user interface, whether web, mobile, paper, email or voice, needed to complete tasks quickly and accurately. Both paper and electronic forms and documents are fully embraced by this unified and integrated solution.

Customer Interaction Solutions automatically capture and process all customer and business interactions, whether spoken, text, or in a multitude of languages, to extract pertinent information for compliance and risk management, customer service operations and to provide immediate intelligence on industry trends and customer behavior. Autonomy achieves this by forming a conceptual understanding of all interactions, whether phone, email, or chat, and extracting meaningful information that can be shared as business intelligence.

Records Management enables organizations to achieve global compliance by creating and applying flexible master policies to their electronic records in accordance with international and local statutes and regulations. This solution provides complete Lifecycle Information Management from document creation to policy driven retention, retrieval, legal hold and finally disposal.

Audio and Video Analysis solutions bring together complementary technologies from multimedia, security, and infrastructure specialists to offer rich media management and security and surveillance products capable of solving television, video, audio, and CCTV challenges of any kind. This revolutionary technology ensures that rich media is fully searchable and accessible immediately, and is unique in providing automatic deep video indexing. Rich Media Management is used for broadcast production, archive management, Internet TV and IPTV applications. By providing the technology which allows organizations to understand and interpret the potential significance of large volumes of data, Security and Surveillance solutions facilitates superior real-time surveillance, detection and protection operations in all security environments and is already trusted by some of the most prestigious intelligence and security agencies in the world.

Web Solutions offer the most comprehensive suite of intelligent customer interaction solutions for targeting and engagement, online marketing optimization, web content management, and composite application provisioning all on a common platform. Building upon the strong foundation of Interwoven's TeamSite and Optimost, now marketers can extend their reach and analysis to rich media and social media.
