IDOL allows users to set up agents to monitor information 24/7 on specific topics from a range of data sources. An agent represents a user's persistent interest in a topic and can be defined or trained explicitly with either a natural language description or Boolean expression. Most powerfully, an agent can be trained or retrained by example, simply by being shown a document, video or verbal conversation that matches a user's interests. The agent will then learn the concepts within the example and define itself accordingly. Once an agent has been created it will monitor in real-time the changing information within the index, instantly alerting the user to anything new that matches the training.
Key Benefits
Enables access of information as soon as it becomes available
Increases organizational productivity and responsiveness by delivering information to users in real-time
Alerting
IDOL enables alerting via automatic profiling and information delivery. IDOL's automatic profiling solutions accurately understand individuals' interests based on browsing, content consumption and/or content contribution. The user's mutifaceted profile represents a real-time understanding of their interests since it is based on both their explicit profile (agent) and implicit profile (click-through submission). Though users can explicitly state their interests, it is certainly not required for IDOL to form an accurate understanding. Profiling can take place across multiple devices. A profile generated through a user's interaction with PDA content can then recommend Internet content or news content via email or SMS.
IDOL delivers personalized content through various channels, including browsers, mobile devices (phones, PDAs, etc.) and even digital TV. Not only can the same content be repurposed for each device, but user interaction through any device also helps IDOL understand user interests and expertise.
Key Benefits:
Provides highly relevant and accurate information to be delivered to an individual automatically
Allows informed decisions to be made more quickly
Makes information widely accessible
Increases competitive edge
Drag-and-Drop Personalization (DDP)
DDP enables users to personalize their information delivery by dragging content of interest into a custom box. IDOL automatically loads the page with content conceptually similar to that of the drag-and-dropped content, thus allowing users to pursue their interest by selecting the aspects of a topic that they find intriguing and ignoring those they find less appealing. IDOL's unique ability to merge ideas and alter contexts in accordance with any content present in the custom box enables users to benefit from highly targeted content that is an accurate reflection of their interests.
In addition, DDP enables experts to dictate the very direction in which a story evolves. The unique power of DDP to combine idea clusters and alter the storyline accordingly means that users can now deepen their expertise on a specific topic more efficiently than ever before.
Users can also modify the look of their page by moving components of the page to their desired areas with a drag-and-drop WYSIWYG tool. By providing a flexible and configurable user interface, IDOL gives users complete control over their information landscape.
Intent-Based Ranking (IBR)
IBR technology uses ground-breaking algorithms to determine a user's intent when querying, thereby delivering highly targeted results based on the individual's profile and contextual factors. IBR ranks results not simply based on popularity, keyword matches or other legacy algorithms, but automatically tailors the results to the user's purpose and the specific query, making search more effective. For example, a search for "laser" would return a vastly different result set when queried by a medical professional than by a defense worker. This leads to massive reduction in information processing time and eliminates business rules for querying.
As with all Autonomy functionality, Autonomy fully supports legacy methods and IBR feature can simply be toggled off. The system can be configured to support as much or as little manual involvement as necessary, ensuring it is never an "either/ or" choice.
