Automatic Query Guidance (AQG)
Simple keyword queries of between one and three words frequently fail because they do not provide enough context. IDOL's AQG feature automatically provides keyword-orientated users with the suggestions they need to find the most relevant document. Users searching for "Madonna", for example, would be asked which "Madonna" information they actually wished to view: Madonna, the singer; Madonna, the religious icon; or something as obscure as Madonna, the laundry in Chicago. AQG identifies the different meanings of "Madonna" by dynamically clustering the results into their most relevant groups. Users are able to guide the engine simply by clicking on the context that best matches what they seek. Autonomy can then automatically suggest further subcontexts or clusters as the user drills into a subject.
AQG is unique because the guidance suggestions are created dynamically based on the query and the time of query. No manual process is required to teach, train or configure the software to provide suggestions.
