Junior Technical Author / Trainee Author
 

Location: Cambridge Headquarters, UK

Autonomy is looking for a Junior Technical Author or a Trainee Author to create high quality documentation and online help. Working as part of the team, liasing with developers, and reporting to the Documentation Manager, you will be involved in all aspects of the documentation, including writing and maintaining technical manuals (for administrators and end users) and creating comprehensive and well-structured online help.

You will become familiar with market-leading technologies, gain an in-depth understanding of complex products to ensure that comprehensive documentation is created, write manuals following standards and house style as well as contribute toward the development of existing standards and house style.

For the position of Junior Author, you should have a minimum of 1 year experience of writing documentation for a software product. Experience of using FrameMaker and a Help authoring package would be useful. You must have the ability to document software, initially from functional specifications and subsequently from the emerging software whilst writing clear and concise documentation aimed at a variety of end users.

For the position of Trainee Author, you should have a strong interest in English and IT, you will be a graduate who is looking for a challenging environment where you can combine both your linguistic and technical skills.

Developmental Support

The developmental support group provide critical backup to both the software development and technical support teams. Acting as specialists in the investigation of issues within the software, the team perform the primary analysis of a potential product issue as well as providing diagnostic information in the determination of the issue's root cause. These are the kind of qualities we're after:

A good grasp of technical subjects, having received or expecting a 2:1 or above.
The ability to work well in a small team with self-motivation and the ability to work well under pressure.
Creativity and problem solving skills, and the ability to talk to technical customers.
A knowledge of script programming, such as Perl or Python may also be useful, but even if you haven't done much before and you're smart, you'll pick it up quickly.
 
Technology Specialist

A proven record in web application development is required along with extensive experience of at least ONE or more of the following OS platforms: Solaris, Linux and NT. The candidate will also have practical experience of Web Servers such as IIS, Apache, Netscape. Database technology such as MS SQL & Oracle is also highly desirable.

A demonstrable knowledge of at least TWO of the following Scripting/Programming paradigms is required: C/C++, Java, JavaScript, Perl, ASP, HTML, DHTML, XML, PHP, COM Objects, CGI.

Product Developer
 

Location: Cambridge Headquarters, UK

Responsible for designing, developing, maintaining and testing product source code, product builds and installers. You will be a fast learner and self motivated with programming experience, particularly in C/C++ with MFC and Windows Platform SDK. The ability to communicate with colleagues and customers is essential, commercial awareness and a broad knowledge of technologies an advantage.

Systems Administrator

Autonomy is seeking to employee a Systems Administrator as a complement to its current internal IT team at its Cambridge offices. The right candidate will be a educated to degree level with hands-on experience in a systems administrative or technical support role.

The required technical skill set includes knowledge of system/user administration, Microsoft operating systems at server and client level, and hardware support. Experience in two or more of the following technical areas is also required: Active Directory, Mail servers, Unix/Linux administration, Web/application servers, Databases and TCP/IP switched/routed networks. Any industry qualifications would be advantageous.
